Orphans of Ghana (UK, 1135404) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Orphans of Ghana is a non profit Charity set up by volunteers who have lived in Ghana supporting orphans in their fight for survival. We have one vision, to provide innocent children who are victims of poverty with opportunities enabling them to unlock their potential both physically and mentally. We believe we have the tools and resources to achieve this vision.  The orphanages we work with are are home to hundreds of abandoned, poor and orphaned children aged from just a few days up to 18 years old. Many of them are sick, some suffering from Malaria, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, or AIDS, and almost all are malnourished. Even more easily preventable conditions such as scabies, ringworm and boils are also commonplace. Within the four walls of these orphanages the children eat, play, sleep, learn and pray, they never leave. Each and everyone of these children need our help and it is us, Orphans of Ghana, who believe that through listening to the needs of our children and working with the orphanages that they call home we can help build long term foundations. Orphans of Ghana believe that we can make a difference. Every member of the team has lived in Ghana and worked with the orphaned children. We hope that our vision and your assistance, together, will bring about change, and give these children opportunities to secure themselves a future that is free from poverty. As our message spreads and our work grows we will be able to help children at other orphanages, and we aim to eventually improve the lives of all orphaned children in Ghana. Help us to help them...

QK House (UK, 1141257) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

QK House is a Charity founded by Headteacher of Quintin Kynaston School, Jo Shuter CBE and her deputy, Irene Forster. QK House will provide a safe, stable and focused environment for Sixth Form students who find themselves in a situation that forces them to become homeless. QK House has identified a group of students within Quintin Kynaston School who are studying for their AS-Levels and A-Levels who have been left without a home for varying difficult reasons.  These students are currently living in ‘sheltered accommodation’ and report to a ‘key-worker’ every week to discuss their progress.  This group number between 6-10 students through the course of the academic year. QK House aims to provide accommodation specifically for these vulnerable students who wish to continue their education beyond compulsory levels.  The house will provide a temporary housing solution to the young people’s problems whilst they are studying during this critical, pre-university and life-defining time.   The key overall vision for the project is one whereby QK House will mirror as closely as is possible a family environment.  Additional support will be integrated into the holistic network of support provision from QK School further enforcing the family support ethic.   QK House is a preventative measure against young people going into care. QK House would be the final stage before the young people are placed into care. The house would provide the students with a stable environment in which they can complete their studies and also receive support from the school and from council support services. Aside from the obvious individual and wider social benefits there are clear financial benefits of avoiding the said young people being placed into care.
