In 1996 a Canadian doctor's research scientifically proved the positive effects of dragon boat paddling on preventing lymphoedema (a common irreversible side-effect of breast cancer treatment). Today there are over 300 breast cancer survivors' dragon boat teams paddling worldwide. We paddle dragon boats on Windermere at Low Wood Bay near Ambleside in Cumbria, UK. Our members are people who have been treated for cancer, family members, friends and other supporters. The friendship, shared experience and team spirit of paddling can be extremely supportive after a cancer diagnosis. Our mission statement: To relieve sickness and protect and preserve good health for persons facing cancer, in particular but not exclusively breast cancer, or persons in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness, within Cumbria and Lancashire, by providing or assisting in the provision for physical activity and recreation, notably dragon boating. Our aims: To promote awareness and education To demonstrate people can still lead a full and active life despite breast cancer To provide support and fellowship to those who want to participate Please join us for … Keeping fit, having fun, and making new friends in beautiful surroundings. We support cancer survivors and their families and friends from NW England. Everyone is welcome to visit us at our paddling location on Windermere. Thank you for supporting us!

UCTF is transforming the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children in Uganda through education and sport. Our commitment to individuals ensures that they grow into confident, ambitious, independent and skilled young people who are able to succeed and take Uganda forward into the future. UCTF’s approach is unique and offers its members a genuine pathway to an independent and successful life. The complex and difficult challenges facing the youth of Uganda cannot be surmounted over night; they require a long-term commitment and insightful solutions. Our level of commitment and investment in the individual is our defining element. Whilst our approach is grounded in an unwavering faith in education and sport we go way beyond the basics, offering scholarships to quality institutions that begin at primary level and run all the way through to further education and beyond. We are not interested in survival or the ordinary, we believe in going the whole way, we pursue excellence whether it is in the classroom, workshop or on the sports field. We believe that everyone is capable of succeeding in life regardless of where they start off, all they need is the opportunity to have a go. If someone has ambition, belief and skills what’s stopping them from succeeding?

Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org
