Wildlife Asia - The Silvery Gibbon Project (AU, 91288315112) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

The primary objective of Wildlife Asia is the protection and enhancement of the natural habitat of orangutans, gibbons, Asian rhinos, bears and other Asian wildlife.   Wildlife Asia is a not for profit association raising funds in Australia to increase conservation contribution, capacity and efficiency for wildlife conservation.   Wildlife Asia and its field programs are active, throughout South East Asia in: habitat protection (in particular tropical rainforest), wildlife conservation (in particular Orangutan, Rhino, Bear and Gibbon), and sustainable development for local communities. Clare Campbell, Director - Wildlife Asia [email protected] Newsletter, Facebook and Twitter at www.wildlifeasia.org.au     The Silvery Gibbon Project raises funds for the conservation of the endangered Silvery Gibbon (Hylobates moloch), a primate found only in the jungles of Indonesia.   Unfortunately, like so many species today the wild populations of the silvery gibbon are under threat due to habitat destruction and fragmentation from illegal logging, burning of forests for palm oil plantations, and encroachment from local human populations. In addition, many gibbons are still lost each year to the illegal pet trade, when adult gibbons are slaughtered so that their babies can be sold in the markets as pets. The situation for these animals is dire. Based on current estimates, the wild populations are thought to number between 400 and 4,000 animals, many of these confined to small fragmented areas of ever diminishing forest.   The Silvery Gibbon Project is run entirely by volunteers. As well as being the primary supporter of the Javan Gibbon Centre, SGP also support education and capacity building programs in Java.   The reintroduction program established in 2009 will require ongoing funding through SGP and we also plan to assist in the development of wild population and habitat proptection programs in the near future.   The Silvery Gibbon Project holds a Certificate of Entry to the register of Environmental Organisations, therefore donations of greater than $2 are tax deductible.

Save A Horse Australia Horse Rescue and Sanctuary (AU, 97212703053) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

Save a Horse Australia was established in 2001 as a private equine rescue and sanctuary however, in 2009 it was registered as a charity to allow the organisation to fundraise. Save A Horse Australia Horse Rescue and Sanctuary was established by Amanda Vella to take in unwanted, neglected, abused and slaughter bound horses, rehabilitating them and finding them the perfect forever home. All of the horses that come into our care are given then very best specialist treatment and when its time for them to find new homes they go out under life time adoption contracts. This means that if the new owner can no longer keep the adopted horse, it must come back to us for rehoming. We do this to make sure that even horse who passes through our doors never falls into the cycle of neglect again. We monitor all adopted horses between 1 - 4 times per years to make sure they are going well in their new homes. Save a horse Australia is also planning to use some of our rescue horses in programs for at risk youth, and people who suffer from mental illness, working along side clinical psychologists and equine therapists. This is a goal and we need urgent funding to help make it a reality. The program will be 100% not for profit so that people from disadvantaged backgrounds can also enjoy the therapy provided. We don't want a program that only people financially stable can enjoy. It will be a program for everyone.

Paws N Hooves (AU, 86110837036) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

Paws 'n' Hooves is a "not for profit" animal rescue group based in Sydney. Thanks to the generosity of Barry Pranklin we now have a brand new, state of the art website which will make our job of displaying the animals we have for adoption much easier. Made up of a group of extremely dedicated volunteers, Paws 'n' Hooves main objective is to save animals from certain death in various pounds and shelters in Sydney and surrounding areas. Animals rescued from "death row" are taken to our foster carers' homes where they are treated like any family pet, until such time as a new and loving, "forever home" can be found for them. While in our care, these animals (mostly dogs and cats) are immunized, wormed, de-sexed, micro-chipped and treated for heartworm and other worms. In many cases, these poor animals have been abused, mistreated and are malnourished.   Our valiant band of carers nurse them back to normalcy and good health with a lot of "TLC". Being a home based group, we can ensure that our animals are well socialised with both people and other animals and in most cases they are also house-trained. Another advantage of us being a home based group, is that you don't have to worry about "business hours" and in most cases our carers are more than happy to have you meet your prospective new pet at any suitable time including evenings and weekends. You will also be seeing and meeting the animals in a home, or a backyard environment rather than in a shelter.   Generally, you are also able to spend more time with the animals than you would expect to do otherwise As carers we also have a reasonably good understanding of the animals we are caring for, so we can advise prospective adopting families of personality traits, and the likes and dislikes etc of the animals that you are interested in. Generally when a suitable family adopts one of our pets, they pay only for the reimbursement of veterinary fees which is around $250 for dogs and $150 for cats.
