Support for amputees, their families, and carers living in the Gosford/Wyong Local Government areas. Peer Support Visitors to hospital in-patients as well as home visits upon requests. Facing limb loss is one of the most devastating and traumatic experiences you could imagine. Many people find themselves experiencing very strong feelings before and after the amputation. One of the most distressing feelings that many people experience is the sense of loss amputation can bring coupled with anxiety and concern. Many people also feel anger and resentment. Some amputees will feel numb and show no response, whilst the most common feeling is depression and a feeling of complete helplessness, utter terror and one feels alone confronting this horrific situation. The most important first step is to recognise these feelings when they occur, accept that we feel this way and talk to others who have been through this traumatic experience. The Central Coast Amputee Association Inc. has trained amputee visitors ready and willing to visit amputees in hospital and at home upon request. Confidentiality is guaranteed. Please phone 4328 1004 to arrange a visit.

The Anxiety Recovery Centre Victoria (ARCVic) is a state-wide, specialist mental health organisation, providing support, recovery and educational services to people and families living with anxiety disorders. We aim to support and equip people with knowledge and skills that will build resilience and recovery and reduce the impact of anxiety disorders. Community support and self-help services play a vital role in promoting the emotional, mental and social well-being of people living with anxiety disorders. Supporting people to learn and implement effective self-help and self management of their symptoms will contribute to their inner resilience, quality of life and recovery. Isolation and alienation from family, friends and the community militate against recovery. Regaining a sense of belonging and confidence with others is often most effectively achieved through connection with a community of people with common conditions and experiences. Partnerships between professionals and consumers, and support and clinical services, will ensure that the experience and knowledge of people with anxiety disorders will be valued and heeded, and contribute to the development of appropriate and effective services. ARCVic services include: Helpline Support Groups Recovery Programs Community Education Seminars Library Youth specific services Social Group & Pen Pals network Membership Donations

Muscular Dystrophy NSW exists to improve the quality of life for people with neuromuscular disorders and their families and carers. We do this through information, support, and direct services. For over 75 years we have been building on the passion and commitment of our founders for improved outcomes for people with neuromuscular disorders. We have also more recently begun building partnerships with other disability service providers to enable us to meet the needs of a broader target group through our partners. People with neuromuscular disorders and their families face unique challenges and have unique support needs due to the progressive nature of their condition and, in many cases, the certainty of their premature death. The frequent need for ventilators and vulnerability of clients to respiratory conditions also creates challenges for mainstream services.
