The John Trivett Foundation for Research into the Causes of Primary Brain Tumours was established in 1998 to commemorate and continue the philanthropy of the late John Trivett. John Trivett was born in Sydney in 1939 and died in Brisbane in 1997 of a Glioblastoma Multiforme. John was indefatigable when it came to doing what he loved. He created successful businesses in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane and in so doing inspired colleagues, staff and clients. He was committed to supporting the communities which were loyal to his business endeavours. Amongst those projects he is remembered for are his contribution to the restoration of Customs House Brisbane, and the centenary of the Queensland Art Gallery. Public support for The Foundation was both spontaneous and generous and $500,000 was raised for The Foundation. The Princess Alexandra Centres for Health Research supported the project and in due course there emerged a collaboration with the IMB and The University of Queensland, further resulting in the appointment in 2002 of Dr Tammy Ellis to the position of Trivett Fellow under the direction of Professor Brandon Wainwright. The agreement with Dr Ellis is for an initial period of five years, which ended in 2007. Dr Ellis made considerable headway with the research for the Trivett Foundation following: 1. The genetic fingerprint of Glioblastomas 2. The role of Patched in brain development and Medulloblastoma formation. 3. The role of Patched in neuronal stem cells and isolation of Medulloblastoma stem cells. We seek to raise more funds in order to continue this great work.
