YTD Raised: $0.00

In Australia, approximately 200 people under 50 are admitted to aged care nursing homes each year. Many of these people are socially isolated and are left forgotten. Sadly, 82% young people living in nursing homes never go out to visit their friends. Nearly half never go on trips to the shops or the movies or sports events. The Summer Foundation is developing an integrated housing model, the next generation of accommodation for people with disability. It aims to be the first of its kind in Australia to provide truly integrated housing, where people with disability will live in their own apartments within a larger residential development with other members of the community. The Summer Foundation is currently raising funds to build and fit-out these apartments, so that young people with disability can reclaim their independence and be part of the community.

Options Youth Housing (AU, 84607801657) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

Not many teenagers are ready to make the big move out of home and into living independently. But unfortunately, there are many young people within our community that don't have a choice over the matter. And that's where we come into the picture. Options Youth Housing helps young people, aged between 16- 25 years, who can't live at home for a variety of reasons. We offer housing and case management support for young people. In essence, we take on the "parental" role when this fundamental support is missing. Many of the young people that come to our service are in a desperate state with limited other options available to them. They may already be living on the streets or couch surfing, escaping domestic violence, trying to remove themselves from dangerous, drug-affected environments or struggling with mental health issues. We aim to help everyone who comes to our service as much as possible. Once accepted into our program, we provide the young people with secure housing for up to 2 years. Our houses are a mix of shared houses and single units, located within the Eastern to South Eastern Suburbs of Sydney (Bondi to Botany). While the young people are housed with us, they are linked in with a case worker, who provides them with ongoing support. There are really no limits when it comes to supporting our young people. We aim to assist them in getting their lives on track and reaching their full potential. This may be through providing personal support, referrals to mental health support, budgeting and financial support, assistance in securing and maintaining education and employment opportunities, advocating for their well being, and any other support as required. Our clients learn how to successfully manage a tenancy in a supported environment. They pay subsidized rent (25% of their income) and are constantly working towards achieving their goals in order to set themselves up for a better future. We aim to break the cycle of homelessness by supporting our young people towards attaining secure, long-term accommodation and working towards being able to live independently from social welfare.
