Paul Simpson joined the teaching staff at Shelford Girls' Grammar in 2008. He was a much respected teacher of Science and his particular passion was Biology. Paul was also actively involved in the coaching of girls' basketball teams. To be in his company was to be in the company of a passionate and knowledgeable man. He had an extraordinary knowledge of plants and the natural world and his students knew this. He encouraged them to connect deeply with the environment. The world was Paul's classroom and he never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge and passion for life. Paul believed that it was possible through education to make the world a better place, by inspiring our young people to be the best they can be. He was a great mentor to not only our students but staff members too. Paul brought every shred of his being to his role as a teacher and a coach. Paul lifted his students' vision of what was attainable, and he made our girls believe in themselves. On March 3, 2011 Paul died tragically whilst on a snorkelling activity with Year 10 students from Shelford Girls' Grammar. The Shelford community wishes to perpetuate the memory of Paul Simpson with the establishment of a memorial scholarship. The Principal of Shelford Girls' Grammar Ms Polly Flanagan and the Patrons of the Simpson Memorial Scholarship Mr Lindsay Gaze and Mr Andrew Gaze, encourage you to donate to this very worthy cause. The Scholarship will be an ongoing reminder to the wider community of the wonderful legacy of Paul Simpson.

Breakaway Camps will provide an outstanding program of intervention and challenge that provides hope, confidence and character for disadvantaged young people, in Melbourne, Victoria and across Australia. Breakaway Camps exists to break the cycle of poverty, unhappiness and hopelessness which for many “at risk” young people leads to drug and alcohol addictions, crime, violence and unemployment. Most young people learn their destructive habits by the time they are 14 years old. Early intervention through an ongoing, long-term support program makes a real difference – and this is the Breakaway difference.
At the heart of all of the Friendship Circle’s programming is the belief that each and every individual can be a productive member of the community and benefit from the social support offered by one’s peers. Friendship, acceptance and a chance to participate in socially accepted bonding opportunities are critical to achieving this type of inclusive society. The Friendship Circle aims to provide children and teenagers with special needs and their families with many of the social and recreational opportunities that are currently available to the general community. These experiences are essential building blocks for an individual to acquire confidence and self esteem and to ultimately lead a productive adult lifestyle. We envisage a world in which people with special needs and their families experience acceptance, inclusion and friendship as contributing members of society. The Friendship Circle aims to create an environment for teens that will nurture and inspire them with meaning, purpose, and self-value; a sense of connection to and responsibility for the greater Jewish community through innovative and stimulating programs. We see this as essential to developing and producing the members and leaders of tomorrow’s Jewish community.
Based in Perth, Western Australia, and operating in Southern Asia, Wahoe Education Inc. is a non profit initiative. We aim to establish and maintain caring and nurturing learning environments where children from less fortunate backgrounds are given the opportunity to learn and develop essential skills and attributes to better their own futures, and those of their communities. Wahoe Education's primary mission is to provide support, fundraising and volunteers to help local grass roots schools and learning centers. Wahoe Education believes that special attention needs to be given to women and girls, to ensure they have equal access to, and encouragement and support to complete, the same educational opportunities and their male peers. Wahoe Education will have a strong focus on: Helping establish safe and nurturing learning environments where girls can attain a high level of education Helping eliminate gender disparity in literacy and educational levels Helping promote gender equality and empowering women Education for young women is very important to us, as it will provide them with a bright future in a male dominated society. A high drop-out rate of girls to support their families, and low incomes forcing parents to only educate their sons, are the main causes of a very low female literacy rate. We hope to curb the gender inequality that occurs in many places. Wahoe Education's aim is to give children who are most in need of an education a head start in life, so when they reach adulthood they can access all education, economical, social, and political opportunities, and will have the ability to pursue their dreams and goals.

PLAY, LEARN, DEVELOP Children begin kindergarten with their own ideas, questions, values, opinions and family backgrounds. By respecting this, enduring and equitable relationships between children and adults can be developed, enabling each child to feel safe, secure, respected, happy and nurtured as an individual. Our Programs are based on learning through play. Within this nurturing and play based environment children will be encouraged towards independence as they gain skills in personal decision-making, negotiation and problem solving; learning to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions and choices. The curriculum goals and objectives achieved through play form the essential foundations for future learning. Central to the notion of play is the opportunity for children to play both indoors or outdoors throughout the day. A balance between child-initiated and adult-supported experiences is provided using man-made and natural materials, which have been carefully chosen according to their developmental appropriateness. Experiences and materials are set up so the children can assert themselves and their independence in choosing what they need or want. The place of parents, carers and teachers within the program is highly valued. We believe in having parents involved in a variety of ways from volunteering or attending fund-raising events through to fruit duty or sharing special talents with the children. This provides children and parents with a sense of security, as a strong connection between home and kinder is established. At Ripponlea we have begun a sustainable journey. Environmental issues are becoming an integral part of the day to day learning at the kindergarten as we endeavour to instill in the children a basic understanding of their responsibilities to our planet. Our kinder programs are aimed at encouraging the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of all children. Importance is placed on independence, creativity, individuality and respectful relationships, but above all, and perhaps most importantly, FUN.

The James Macready-Bryan Foundation was set up in February 2007 to provide financial support for care and rehabilitation and a public voice for young sufferers of acquired brain injury (ABI) and their families. The Foundation aims to improve the shortfalls in the medical, financial, political and social services systems, in which young lives are saved but then not adequately supported. Our fundraising provides vital support for additional services in care facilities, for the provision of better and more appropriate home care and, most importantly, for the development of new, age-appropriate residential options. The Foundation’s advocacy role helps to raise public awareness of the needs of young ABI sufferers. We continue to lobby state and federal governments to make the NDIS a reality, so that grieving families do not have to fight for every dollar to provide their children with the care and therapies they so desperately need.
