Racehorse Rehoming is set in the village of Combe St Nicholas, Nr Chard on the edge of the Blackdown hills in Somerset. We are a dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of former ex-racing thoroughbreds, who for whatever reason have fallen on hard times after a career in racing. Over 3000 horses leave the racing industry every year, where do they all go? Some are lucky enough to find good homes, others are sent to markets and are sold for Pounds to the meat man, when once they were worth thousands. But most are sent to slaughter, for no other reason than they have not made the grade or have passed their best in performance on the track. We cannot save them all, but we are here to do our bit for these underestimated creatures, who do not deserve the label of being difficult/flighty to retrain. They take very well to a slower more relaxed pace of life and make wonderful pleasure horses and are more than capable of competing to a high level in other equine disciplines, such as eventing, showing, show jumping and dressage. We are totally self-funded, relying on donations and fundraising events, we receive no funding from any other welfare organisations. All horses remain in the ownership of the charity for life, where possible they are put out on permanent loan to caring experienced owners. If not suitable for re-homing, they remain here at the charity for the rest of their days. We are honored to have as permanent residents a Royal Ascot winner and a winner of the Welsh National now entering their latter years. Alongside others who due to injuries sustained in racing are unable to be re-homed as riding horses. Thank you for taking the time to read about our charity, if you would like to know more about our work you can find us on. Our Charity The Charlton Park Academy Fund was set up in 2000 to support Charlton School, now Charlton Park Academy, a secondary school for pupils with special needs in the London Borough of Greenwich. The pupils, aged 11-19, have a variety of special needs including autistic spectrum disorder, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties. Many of them come from very deprived backgrounds and therefore face huge challenges to reach their full potential and be as independent as possible. Whilst the academy is funded by central government to deliver the students statutory education, the academy is constantly looking at ways to add to and enhance every student’s school experience, with the intention that this will raise self-esteem, boost self-confidence and ultimately give each student the greatest opportunity to achieve once they have left the school. Projects Such activities and projects of course cost money, and this is where the school’s registered charity looks to play its part. This, in practice, means working with the students, parents, staff and governors to look at projects that will provide the most benefit and impact to as many students as possible. Hence, the charity has raised money for projects large and small, such as the refurbishment of two sensory rooms within the school and the funding of after school clubs and residential trips. We are currently raising money for a new fleet of minibuses, our Minibus Appeal, computer devices for communication, residential trips and clubs.

Erskine provides specialist nursing and dementia care for former members of our Armed Forces. Founded in 1916, the charity has cared for over 75,000 ex-Service men and women through two World Wars and more recent conflicts and peace-keeping initiatives. This year we will care for over 1350 Veterans through five residential care homes in Bishopton, Erskine, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Current residents include men and women who served in the Falklands, the Gulf, Bosnia and Northern Ireland, as well as World War II. War isn't a thing of the past and neither is the need to support our country's Veterans. These brave men and women answered the call and risked everything for their country. In return, when they need care Erskine is there for them. As a charity, we rely heavily on donations and legacies from individuals, community groups and companies. By helping Erskine to raise much-needed funds you too can play a vital part in caring for our ex-Service men and women. We need your support!
