Christ Church in Lancaster operates an emergency winter nightshelter for adults in Lancaster and the surrounding areas. We provide a non-judgemental and welcoming atmosphere for those who have no other means of accommodation. We are open 7 nights of the week and anyone is welcome to just turn up! The shelter is open each year from the end of October until Easter. The shelter is funded by donations from parishioners at Christ Church other Churches and local groups and schools. We also receive grants from local trusts. We welcome gifts of blankets, tinned food, biscuits tea and coffee etc We have a paid co-ordinator and deputy but volunteers are always needed. Treasures of Darkness seeks to reach those sold into modern day slavery. We are in partnership with two projects. One of these rescues children who are being sold into slavery in West Africa on the cocoa plantations that produce much of our chocolate. The other works in Cambodia rescuing young girls sold into prostitution, especially among the Vietnamese refugees. We welcome regular donations for these projects and also encourage the giving a piece of auctionable jewellery, or some other "treasure" which can be sold to buy the freedom of someone in desperate need, who is at risk of slavery, hence our strap line "Sell your chains to break theirs".

The Mr Brightside Project aims to raise awareness of bowel cancer, funding research into the causes/diagnosis and treatment.
