Thinking Development (UK, 1147071) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Thinking Development aims to increase access to education in Haiti and promote equitable and sustainable development, through the design and reconstruction of a destroyed girls' school in Port-au-Prince.  Who we are We are a collaborative and imaginative NGO, connecting a community of nuns, teachers and school girls in downtown Port-au-Prince with a group of designers, architects, documenters and development planners associated with University College London’s Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. What we do Together we have completed the design for the permanent reconstruction of Centre Rosalie Javouhey - a girls' school complex destroyed in the 2010 earthquake. This inspiring, sustainable, replicable and multi-functional educational complex in the heart of Haiti's capital city will accommodate 1,250 girls, their teachers and staff. We are documenting this process in short films that capture this unique journey, and hope to share its lessons with other development practitioners, other disaster victims, and all those with a passion for breaking down international barriers in the name of equitable and sustainable development. Why we need your support Currently, Centre Rosalie is operating out of small, temporary buildings, with reduced admissions, no clean drinking water and not enough classrooms, toilets and kitchen facilities to accommodate the demand. This school serves some of Port-au-Prince's most disadvantaged girls, many of whom were extremely traumatised by the 2010 earthquake, suffering injuries, anxiety and stress, and losing relatives and homes. By helping us raise funds to rebuild the school, you will enable 1,250 girls to develop their minds and recover from the trauma in this inspiring and uniquely nature-surrounded school, designed and built in the social and physical context of the region. Every penny we raise will go towards getting this school built and ensuring these children get the education they deserve. There are many ways you can help. Here are a few ideas...

Jesus Shaped People (UK, 1169938) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Jesus Shaped People describes itself as a ‘whole church discipleship adventure’. It radically refreshes a church’s vision of what it means to follow Jesus Christ, in ways that are deeply spiritual and thoroughly practical. JSP began in the parish of Tong and Holme Wood in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and gained Trust status in 2016. It is steadily spreading throughout the UK, as churches find it to be a remarkably effective tool for healthy church development.   A core principle of the Trustees is that JSP is offered to churches without any charge – many of these are serving heavily disadvantaged communities. However as interest in JSP expands, there is need of fresh financial resources to sustain and grow this vital work. The immediate challenge is to raise £100,000 a year, initially for three years, to fund the creation of a small central staff team that will spread our work with parishes and individuals across England.  This team will consist of a full time director, a part time children/youth co-ordinator, plus administration and web support. We hope these posts can be in place as soon as possible. We warmly welcome donations from churches and individuals, and are grateful for them, whether they be large or small, to help us meet this challenge.  Individuals can make donations through this facility – and may increase the value of their donation to JSP through making a Gift Aid declaration if they are paying income tax. Churches wishing to donate to JSP should refer to other information on the website by clicking the ‘donate’ button on the main menu.  Charity No: 1169938 Find out more Website Please click here to visit our website Facebook https://www.facebook.com/jesusshapedpeople Twitter https://twitter.com/jesusshapedprog

Northamptonshires only dedicated provider of higher education, the University plays a key role in the economic development of the County and aims to be an increasingly dynamic force within the region, to be a leading national model in engaged learning, producing gifted and employable graduates. With changes in public sector funding, financial support from other sources is increasingly important to continue the development of our Centres of Excellence, maintain our commitment to open access for students from all sections of the community and to develop a stimulating environment in which people can learn, contribute and succeed. To achieve this we need your help. Your contributions will make a real difference to the life and work of our students. The Chancellors Fund We invite you to join us in supporting The Chancellor’s Fund to build a fund that will support current and future generations of talented students. The fund supports: Matched Funding - making your gift go further The Government Matched Funding scheme provides an opportunity to significantly increase the value of philanthropic donations. Every £1 donated to the University has the capacity to unlock an additional 50 pence. This means that a gift of £1, together with Gift Aid and matching funding increases the value of the donation to £1.92. The matched funding scheme runs until the end of July 2011 and therefore it is vital that we maximise this opportunity now.
