(UK, 267687) The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool Association is a registered charity run by a small group of trustees and a committee of volunteers. Opened in 1979 the building is a unique purpose built hydrotherapy pool specially designed to meet the therapeutic needs of any persons of any age with impairments due to illness, injury, disease and or disability. Our pool measures 13.5 metres by 6 metres, maximum depth 1.5 metres. The pool is maintained at 92 degrees Fahrenheit, with the air temperature balanced to match. Group and high dependency private changing rooms are all connected by an overhead hoist system, taking severely disabled users directly into the pool, enhancing the overall hydrotherapy experience. The pool is used by locally based Special Schools, disabled adult groups, local resource centres and individuals, either registered disabled and or referred to the pool. User’s age range varies from 1 to 90+ and since inception in excess of one million user sessions have been recorded, travelling to the pool from Swindon, throughout Wiltshire and surrounding counties to use the facilities. The Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool has helped users suffering from virtually any disability you can think of including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, blindness, brain damage and asthma. Other users have included amputees, jockeys recovering from injury, people with severe back pain and many recovering from operations. We need your help. As a privately run registered charity we rely on fundraising and sponsorship to meet our increasing operating costs against pool income received. In addition, August 2011 we now have to raise £200,000 for roof and ventilation repairs. Come and witness the Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool experience to see the fantastic work undertaken, the joy on the faces of the disabled children who use the pool and the beneficial hydrotherapy water treatment provided to all users.
