On Road’s early work focused on training charities and the communities they work with in media skills, so they could tell their own stories. Since 2011, the charity has worked more closely with communities on collaborative projects. That includes the award-winning All About Trans project, improving the portrayal of trans people in the media, Angles: A Different Take On Sexual And Domestic Abuse, and two new programmes on the representation of people who experience poverty and young people with irregular immigration status. Kidz R Us is a registered charity providing opportunities in the performing arts for young people, aged 7 – 20 in West Cornwall. It was founded in 1994 and is now based in its own 320 seat theatre (a partly-converted Wesleyan chapel) in St Ives in Cornwall. Kidz R Us have a well deserved reputation for producing work of the highest standards and as well as performing in their own theatre they have performed in the West End at the London Palladium, Royal Albert Hall and the Criterion Theatre as well as at the world renowned Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Increasing numbers of graduates from Kidz R Us are now entering professional training for music and drama. Kidz R Us currently produces at least three large-scale shows a year, and a small number of concerts. These involve over 100 young people (including a healthy proportion of boys) in singing, dance and drama. There are a large number of young people who are on the company’s waiting list. Over the last seven years Kidz R Us has paid off the money borrowed to purchase the St Ives Theatre and is now operating as a debt free organisation. Young people come to Kidz R Us from all over West Cornwall and from Truro to St Just. Cornwall is one of the poorest areas in Great Britain (as recognised by Europe with Convergence Status) and eight out of the ten poorest wards in Cornwall are in West Cornwall. The young people who attend Kidz R Us are broadly representative of the socio-economic make-up of the area. Kidz R Us is run mainly by over 100 volunteers under the artistic directorship of Phil Barnett and with the support of a General Manager. Having just completed 20 highly successful years Kidz R Us has paid off the mortgage on the Theatre (using mainly earned income) and are now seeking to move into a new, more sustainable era. The success of Kidz R Us has meant that it has outgrown its current structures and is now looking to further support the work of its talented and dedicated members and volunteers with paid staff.

Stafford Samaritans support people in emotional crisis, without judgement, interruption or interference. Just by listening, we can change or even save a life. It costs us £5 to be there for someone struggling to cope. We don’t receive funding from head office; it costs around £20,000 each year to keep our branch open and we rely completely on the generosity of local donors and fundraisers to continue our work. Stafford Samaritans take phone calls, reply to emails and SMS messages and meet face-to-face with visitors to our centre. The service is completely free and confidential, and it's provided entirely by volunteers. We also offer support and training to local organisations, covering mental health and listening techniques that better equip their teams for working with vulnerable members of the public, or encountering a suicide prevention situation. Our outreach volunteers appear regularly at schools, colleges, train stations and doctor's surgeries to raise the profile of the service and make the public aware that Samaritans are here to support them. To access the service, you can call Samaritans 24/7 on 116 123, or email [email protected]
