Behind the Concept The 2011 riots. Gang culture. Knife crime. London is one the most celebrated and visited cities in the world yet it’s not difficult to find negative perceptions of our young people. Unfortunately, the numerous challenges facing young Londoners have been met by funding cuts in the education sector and a planned narrowing of the curriculum. In this context, schools are faced with the harsh realities of preparing pupils for an increasingly competitive employment market whilst trying to create and develop ambitions and alter perceptions of what young people can achieve. The YouthLink Network was established to help schools meet these challenges head on by bringing communities together. We believe that by providing funding to expand education and by allowing young people the opportunities to meet would be mentors and inspiring speakers they can begin to create networks, raise their aspirations and most importantly, gain the confidence to realise their ambitions. Mission Our mission is to ensure that young people are able to experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of their learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances. What We Do Launched in 2012, The YouthLink Network support out-of-classroom learning programmes by supplying London’s primary schools with:

St Austell Unit 568 Of The Sea Cadet Corps (UK, 272037) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

As an independent charity, but part of the national Sea Cadets, your support is vital to us. We rely on the goodwill of our local community and businesses for financial support, welcoming donations, large or small which can help provide opportunities for our cadets. Your donation will go straight to our Unit where at the present time we, at T.S Hood, are fund raising for a new mini-bus. Ours is coming to the end of it's life and without transport our young cadets training will be compromised.  Beyond the mini-bus your donations, large or small, help fund the following; £20 will pay for a life jacket - £50 can help pay for the heating of the unit - £100 will pay for a new set of oars for a pulling boat - £250 will send a Sea Cadet on a week's trip on flagship TS Royalist - £1000 will help make vital health and safety upgrades for the Unit - £2500 will buy a new boat for a unit - which will have a useful life of at least 25 years, serving hundreds and hundreds of cadets. We are also continually looking for opportunities to send our young cadets to sea on one of the Sea Cadets vessels, such as Jack Petchey. Last year we were able to send 4 cadets, who thoroughly enjoyed their time on board, whilst gaining valuable skills and experience.  We welcome larger Corporate donations too and if you would like to find out more about how you can fund the work of the charity nationally please visit: ms-sc.org. Thank you in anticipation, The Staff and Cadets from T.S.Hood, St Austell Sea Cadets.

tri4japan (UK, 1141488) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Japan is gripped by its worst disaster since World War 2.Earthquakes, tsunami and now nuclear radioactivity fears. My Japanese wife Rieko and I lived in Japan for many years and have family and friends there. On Friday 11th March 2011, we watched in horror when the earthquake and tsunami hit Eastern Japan. We instantly knew we had to do something. One of the port towns called Kamaishi was literally washed away in front of our eyes. Kamaishi was the town on TV that really struck a chord string with us. Suddenly, this was real and it suddenly this was personal. When we saw buildings we had stayed in, shops we had visited, and roads we had walked down, vanish in front of our eyes, under the relentless surge of that all consuming Tsunami, we knew we had to act. Not only people suffering in Kamaishi, but those affected all over Japan, and if we had the resources, all people suffering in the world. However, we are just two people, with limited resources and limited time. Rather than watch in vain and prey, we put a stake in the ground and said, Now is the time to act. The earthquake and Tsnuami we saw hit Kamaishi was the catalyst, for our call to action. Why Tri ? Triathlon is all we know, I have been involved in triathlon for 25 years, it is not only our livelihood and our hobby, and a way of life. Although we say tri4japan, we want to include all sports, swim, bike run, endurance and sprint, individual and team. The true essence of our mission is that all people from all sports around the world come together and TRY FOR JAPAN. We have started Tri4Japan to raise money to help the people of Kamaishi who in many cases have literally lost everything in this devastating disaster. Please support us!

In 1933, Dr Wiener and his family fled to Amsterdam where he established the Jewish Central Information Office, which collected information with the purpose of revealing the true nature of events in the Third Reich.  In 1939 the JCIO was transferred to London, and throughout the Second World War Allied Governments as well as the BBC made extensive use of its collection, which was increasingly referred to as ‘Dr Wiener's Library'. After the war, the Library provided critical evidence to the Nuremberg Trials and later to the Eichmann Trial, and became a key source of information for survivors attempting to trace their families. Today, the Library’s collection continues to grow with more items added every year, including materials on other genocides such as Rwanda and Darfur. The Wiener Library is open to the public five days a week free of charge. Read more about our work and our history at www.wienerlibrary.co.uk
