(UK, 1124629) South London Special League provides regular competitive sport for people with a disability at whatever level they are able to access the game. This depends on their ability, not disability. Currently South London Special League offers training and competition in the following: Table Cricket Small sided football Small sided cricket Goalball (1st Paralympic Sport) Boccia Tennis Powerchair Football with many more exciting projects to come in the future... South London Special League is funded entirely through grants, donations and fundraising events. It organises some 50 football tounrmanets each year involving over 3000 players, competing at each age, gender and ability level for an annual cup. The League also provides opportunities to train for qualifications as a coach or assisstnat coach and work experience placements. In return, we offer fully trained and qualified coaches to special needs schools in the local community. The success of the Special League is reflected by the number and high standard of awards for excellence that have been achieved in the last decade. Autumn 2003 - London Football Association: Development award for Disability Football February 2005 - London Development Agency Sports Awards: Best Community Project December 2005 - CARE (Charlton Athletic Race Equality) Partnership Sports awards: Adult Project of the Year February 2007 - London Sports Forum: Best Community Project for A League Of Their Own (regular football league for adults with disabilities) September 2007 - UEFA Award for Best Disabled Grassroots Football Event Summer 2007 (UEFA year of Grassroots Football) December 2007 - Capital Radio Help A London Child Hero April 2009 - Kick It Out - London Community Champions June 2009 - The 10th Year of The South London Special League Summer Festivals at London Marathon Playing Fields, Greenwich, and launch of Sport In The Community project September 2009 - SLSL and Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) enter a formal partnership to support the community October 2009 - CARE Partnership Award for Work In The Community November 2009 - South London Press Our Heroes Award - runners up for the Best Community Project 2009 November 2010 - London Football Association: Disability Partnership Of The Year We need your help to sustain the excellent work that is done at South London Special League. Any donation is welcome, however big or small, and we welcome anyone who would like to see the project in action at one of our events. Seeing the project really gives an insight into the needs of these disabled adults and youngsters who just want the opportunity to play sport at a level they can compete and not be discriminated against because of their ability as sportspeople.
