work-wise at SYCF (UK, 517714MCC) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

work-wise Charitable Fund In the UK, young people continue to be the hardest hit by the recession and are almost three times as likely as adults to be unemployed. Young people deserve the chance of a decent and productive job to build a better future. We need to tap into their talent and economic potential and must at all costs avoid disillusioned youth trapped in a cycle of working poverty or in danger of being detached altogether. By providing resources to better prepare young people we can improve their employment and life prospects. work-wise provides opportunities and experiences to educate and support young people to enable them to enter the world of work with confidence and work ready and to take their place in society as responsible citizens. work-wise has been developed by volunteers from the business community to provide young people, our future generation workforce, with a broad range of inspirational, industry focused, work related learning and development experiences supported by employers throughout. Enabling young people to better develop the personal attributes and skills - the work-wise essentials - they will need in preparation for future jobs and life. The money raised through the work-wise fund will be used to:

Friends of Queens Croft and Liberty Staffordshire (UK, 1054149) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

‘Liberty Staffordshire’ is a non-profit charity that provides young people with special needs opportunities to live and work within Staffordshire, West Midlands and Warwickshire. It was set up to combat the lack of government funding provided to help these youngsters both socially and with their physical and mental health.Queen’s Croft Special School is a learning community for youngsters who find learning and physical activities difficult. It focuses not only on education but on the individuals forward journey and transition to mainstream life. A generic Special School serving students from age 11 to 19, Queens Croft is different to any other because it continues its support way beyond education.  Queens Croft and ‘Liberty Staffordshire’ We have set a task to increase fitness and muscle tone in as many young people that they can reach. They are working together to tackle the cliff drop transition between education and life beyond for people with special needs. Most educational establishments do not and pupils are left high and dry when education ceases. We provide vocational training, employment opportunities, football clubs, fitness and access to the arts for all.    Due to lack of Government funding these children and young people do not get the physiotherapy that they require. The project is to set up ‘Boot Camp’ style exercise classes working with specially adapted gym equipment to tackle this issue. With funding we will run a yearly’ Iron Man’ challenge that they can compete in at their level. They will in turn be able to gain their own sponsorship to raise money for the continuing success of this project. To be able to do this we need to raise £18,000 to install specially adapted gym equipment, employ specialist trainers to run disability team games and running clubs. There is nowhere else that runs specially adapted exercise classes. We aim to integrate main stream young people when appropriate to the training sessions. There has been no other project or service where the children can socialize and integrate with others from the community. People with disabilities are unable to attend out of school gym clubs, mainstream dance classes or sports activities as others do which limits their social skills, stamina and physical development. Please help to give these children a sense of belonging and purpose.  Charity No: 1054149 Find out more Facebook https://en-gb.facebook.com/libertystaffordshire/

Cancer On Board (UK, 1172100) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Making life easier for cancer patients. We provide badges for cancer patients, modelled on the “Baby on board” badges popular in London, to encourage people to make room on public transport for those undergoing treatment. Even the smallest amount of kindness might shine a tiny ray of sunshine onto what can be a horribly depressing time. Being offered help or support, without having to ask, might make all the difference to someone’s day.Cancer patients don’t all lose their hair, so they are not always obvious. Everyone’s experience with cancer is different. If a little badge can help get somebody one step closer to the end of their treatment, or even just make them feel a bit better for five minutes, then its purpose has worked. We don’t want anyone to feel pressured into wearing a badge, but knowing you have one in your pocket, just in case, can be a morale booster. Even if you don’t particularly need any help, somebody asking you how you are, or wishing you luck, can give you a real boost, and can turn a bad day into a better one.  Charity No: 1172100 Find out more Website Please click here to visit our website Facebook Please click here to visit our Facebook page Twitter Please click here to visit our Twitter page

Birstall Scout Group (UK, 524710) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Birstall Scout Group promotes the development of young people, both boys and girls, in line with The Scout Association policies and procedures. Our group consists of Beavers (6-8yrs), Cubs (8-10yrs) and Scouts (10-14yrs) and is growing year on year. Our aim is to educate, guide and help develop young children within the global scouting programme which, includes activities such as outdoors, community, fitness, global, creative, beliefs and attitude. It is important for us to ensure there is a route for all children to join our membership and partake in the benefits the group can offer. This allows all children to participate in activities and attend trips away including camping etc. We feel the group allows children to develop and take responsibility for themselves and others to assist them in life as they develop into an adult. The group has members from various backgrounds and will help and support low income families to ensure their children are not discriminated against and can still enjoy all activities and education which the scout group offers. Please help us in fundraising to further enhance our group in areas of growth, equipment, activities and development.

Friends of Salhouse Church (UK, XN83380311) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Friends of Salhouse Church has as its main objective the preservation and enhancement of our beautiful fifteenth century church, All Saints, in Salhouse, Norfolk. This church is a priceless asset to the whole community, which it has served for over six hundred years, and we want to ensure that it lasts another six hundred (at least!) Started only in July 2011, the Friends have already chalked up two major successes.  In December 2011 we laid on a water supply, thanks to a local farmer who kindly let us tap into his bore hole.  Then in April 2012, we worked with the diocesan WiSpire team to get a broadband transmitter installed on the church tower, giving us an internet hot-spot within the church (with an eye to on-line broadcasts). Our current aim is to help raise funds towards the planned extension to the church.  This will provide a kitchen and toilets - facilities which were somehow overlooked when the church was first built.  Once we have these, the church will be able to host concerts, hold workshops and generally serve the local community. See our website for details of our SINGATHON on September 29-30

People come for counselling for a wide variety of issues, although the most common ones are relationship issues, depression, low self-esteem or as a result of past emotional trauma.
