April 30 - May 5, Sponsored 400 km cycle ride from Le Havre to Guise, Aisne where the Iron 12 were executed. Please support us and help us raise money to erect a memorial to commemorate the eleven British soldiers and the French citizen executed by the Germans in Guise, on 25th February 1915. The site of the memorial is to be in the village of Iron, Aisne, where the soldiers were concealed from the occupying Germans for about 5 months until their discovery and execution. It’s a story full of daring, intrigue and tragedy. Briefly, in the first few weeks of the WW1 campaign, the soldiers became separated from their regiments in the retreat from Mons and became trapped behind enemy lines. They lived rough in the forests until they were bravely taken in by the villagers of Iron. They were kept hidden in the village mill before being betrayed to the Germans. The British soldiers and the mill owner were executed by firing squad against the walls of the Chateau at Guise. By erecting a memorial we hope that it will be act as a reminder to future generations of the sacrifices unselfishly made by our ancestors.   ironmemorialfund" target="_blank" title="Link opens in a new window">

Fulham Legal Advice Centre (UK, 1061395) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

We are a charity providing free legal advice and representation to individuals without the means to pay. Please visit our website at www.flac.org.uk FLAC was established on 23 August 1971 and opened its doors to the public on 20 March 1972. It was the first organisation to be funded by the Home Office Urban Aid Grant to relieve poor persons resident or working within the area bounded by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and surrounding areas by providing such persons with legal services which they could not otherwise obtain through lack of means. In 1975 FLAC was instrumental in setting up the Hammersmith & Fulham Community Law Centre. FLAC promotes access to social justice, strengthens communities, fights discrimination and effects systemic change through representation, advocacy and community representation: During 3 evening sessions per week free legal advice is given by volunteer qualified solicitors and barristers on all areas of law apart from immigration or conveyancing. Volunteer law students and graduates and trainees also attend the sessions to gain valuable experience. We have permanent staff, including a welfare benefits adviser and employment caseworker and tribunal representative. Through these staff, we are able to represent a number of people at employment tribunals, disability benefit tribunals and social security appeal hearings. Because our other advisers are volunteers, we are not able to represent our clients in court, but we assist them with drafting the necessary documentation and give them knowledge of procedure to enable them to run their own cases. We believe we provide a valuable service to our local community, evidenced by the number of people who return to seek advice on a range of issues affecting them. Clients are referred to us by a range of other local advisory agencies as well as doctors, the police, the council and local solicitors and by word of mouth from people who have had a good experience of our service in the past.
