Family Caring Trust (UK, XN73838) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Family Caring Trust has been a 'silent partner' in family and children’s services since 1986. We publish low-cost, evidence-based, easy to use programmes in kit form, which are used by community, voluntary and public sector services all over the UK and Ireland in their work with parents, young people and couples. Our programmes are valued because they take a common-sense approach which is respectful of both parents and children. The kit format makes life easier for busy professionals who can use them 'on the run' and for novice facilitators who can lean on the script, the DVD input and full instructions provided. This approach to universal provision has enabled over half a million people to experience our programmes since 1986. External evaluations of our parenting programmes have provided evidence of impact using a number of validated measures.  We also provide Initial Training in our programmes and have an OCN level 3 accredited programme available for those who don’t already have qualifications in work with parents.

The Daphne Jackson Trust (UK, 1125867) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Daphne Jackson Trust is a charity that has been helping women and men return to their research careers in science, technology, engineering and maths since 1992. The Trust was founded following the death of Professor Daphne Jackson, the UK’s first female physics professor who had a vision to remove the barriers that individuals face when trying to return to careers following a break for family caring or health reasons. Work life balance is a key issue in our society and many people wish to take a break for family or health reasons. In the fast moving world of scientific research, highly qualified and skilled individuals who take a career break quickly find themselves lagging behind their peers, and when returning to work, they struggle to find research-based employment which fully utilises their knowledge and experience. Our Fellowships give returners the opportunity to balance a challenging research project, with a personally tailored retraining programme that gives them the confidence and skills they need to return to their career. Our Fellows’ will contribute to research that will in future bring benefits to our society as a whole. For example, contributing to better ways to diagnose and treat disease, and developing our understanding of the mechanisms of climate change. To date, the Daphne Jackson Trust has helped over 250 individuals return to their careers and with your support we will be able to help hundreds more. The Trust is a unique organisation that brings potential returners together with sponsoring organisations and universities. Our Fellowship Advisors offer unparalleled mentoring and support throughout the fellowship, whilst Universities, learned societies and other organisations provide financial support. Donations are vital to our work in reaching out to the untapped pool of returners and helping individuals overcome the barriers they face when trying to return to their careers.

Business Launchpad (UK, 299599) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Business Launchpad offers practical, complete and personalised business guidance and support to young entrepreneurs, aged 16 to 30 in London, who want to set up and run their own business. All of our services are free. Since our launch in 1988, Business Launchpad has provided support to 5,000 young people. Our unique, holistic support model has also led to impressive survival rates for our young peoples’ businesses, with 85% still trading after two years. The high rate of unemployment, following the recession in the early 1980s, was the key driving force for Business Launchpad’s establishment. Richard Williams, a local resident and Business Launchpad’s Founder, approached Wandsworth Council with a business plan to get disadvantaged, unemployed, young people in the borough not only into employment but to help them set up and run their own businesses. Originally founded as the Wandsworth Youth Enterprise Centre (WYEC), our work gradually grew and expanded beyond Wandsworth and we opened our second Enterprise Centre in Acton in November 2012. Due to expansion across London we re-launched with the new name of Business Launchpad, to better reflect the scope of our work and to move away from an image that was specific to one area of London. The demand for our services remains as high now as it was 25 years ago. During 2012 the number of young people Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) had risen to beyond one million, almost one in five. According to the thinktank Demos, this number will grow to 1.2m over the next five years. Today, Business Launchpad‘s mission remains the same: to offer practical, complete and personalised business guidance and support to any young entrepreneur, regardless of their background, who wants to set up and run their own enterprise. YTD Raised: £0.00

Unique in the UK, the Vale of Glamorgan Festival presents an annual programme of classical music featuring works by living composers only which sets it apart from other festivals.  The festival brings to Wales an international roster of great artists, ensembles and composers presenting a programme of concerts, talks and workshops where the composers themselves rub shoulders with audiences and share their passion for the best of new music. Over a ten-day period, the 2014 Festival will feature artists from Belgium, Denmark, Ireland and the UK including choirs, orchestras and smaller chamber groups in a range of beautiful historic buildings and also state-of –the art concert halls.  Composers from the performers’ home countries will feature as well as extended profiles of the work of the late Sir John Tavener and Tarik O'Regan.   Keeping music alive, the festival is committed to directly supporting composers and commissions new work each year which will premiere during the festival – in 2014 this includes a new work by Gabriel Jackson "Zero Point Reflection" which will be premiered by Juice Vocal Ensemble.  We are able to present our ambitious programme thanks to generous funding from the Arts Council of Wales and Vale of Glamorgan Council whose support amounts to 56% of the overall cost of the festival.  It is our job to raise the remaining 44% from trusts and foundations, international organisations, ticket sales and donations. With a target of £14,000 this year to raise from individual supporters, please consider supporting the 2014 festival.  You can support the costs of a new commission (see Zero Point Reflection) or become a Festival Friend by clicking on the links on the left of the page, or alternatively if your prefer make a one-off or regular payment by clicking "Make a Donation" button to the right!  Every single penny helps us in our work.
