East Park RDA is based at Little Brook Equestrian in Newchapel, and is a registered charity under the umbrella of Riding for the Disabled Association. We provide riding sessions for children with learning or physical disabilities from local schools. We run 8 sessions per week during term time, with 6 children per session, giving 48 children a week a chance to enjoy the benefits that riding brings to the disabled. We own 6 ponies ourselves, with others provided by Little Brook. Disabled individuals can also ride with us in small groups or on their own. We offer carriage-driving lessons in a specially built wheelchair accessible carriage, which is ideal for adults or older young people. We are entirely self-funded, and although the schools pay a fee, this does not cover the cost of the sessions, so we rely on fund-raising events, donations and grants to cover the annual shortfall. We are honoured to have Dame Judi Dench as our Group Patron. We also rely heavily on volunteers, up to three per rider, to assist the children. If you could spare a couple of hours a week to help out, we would love to hear from you. You do not need experience with horses as full training is given.
