Honeywell Schools Lollipop Patrol (UK, 1087950X) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Let’s save our lollipop patrol once again! Honeywell parents and Savills have worked together to fund our school crossing patrol service since Wandsworth Council funding for lollipop patrols was stopped in 2013. Our wonderful lollipop men, Fred and Raj, keep our young children safe crossing Northcote and Webb's Roads, help older children walk to school independently and are an important part of the Honeywell community. We are proud to be the only state school in Wandsworth that still maintains a lollipop patrol and fundraise to support the service every two years. The service costs about £11,200 a year and is part funded by an extremely generous sponsorship from Savills estate agent but we need to set our fundraising target at a massive £12,500. This will safeguard the service until September 2021 so please give generously. If you are a UK taxpayer, please do make a Gift Aid declaration. This enables us to receive an extra 25% on top of your donation at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your support.

The Bike Project (UK, 1152354) Browse events

What we do We are a community of refugees, mechanics and volunteers. We receive donations of second- hand bikes, fix them together at our workshop, and then donate them to asylum seekers and refugees. By attending our workshop and helping to fix their own bike, all beneficiaries get actively involved in the process as much as possible. This enables them to learn basic bike maintenance and form long-term supportive relationships. We also run a separate project where we teach refugee women to cycle. We teach cycling proficiency, in an all-female environment, to complete beginners. The lessons run once a week, for ten weeks, and all participants are given a bike at the end.  Why we do it "The Bike Project provides the first step into normal living for those who have faced persecution and atrocity" Helen Bamber OBE Transport in London can be expensive. This is especially true for a refugee going through the asylum process. Having fled persecution and atrocity in their country of origin, they are forced to live on a mere £36 a week in benefits, and prevented from finding employment. London is a city that is rich in opportunities. A bike can help these people reach the many resources that London has to offer: charities that can feed them, lawyers that can aid their application process, home office appointments, healthcare, education and much more. If they are lucky enough to receive status, a bike can help them find employment. "When you have to go from charity to charity to feed yourself, a bike becomes very important to your life." Not every young person with mental health issues wants to talk, we believe that young people who suffer from mental health issues such as social and anxiety disorders should have access to a different type of therapy to help them cope with their issues. Our focus is to raise funds to organisations who can offer Art Therapy for young people who will benefit from this form of therapy. We raise funds to commission organisations who have the expertise to offer Art Therapy for a length of time outside the standard six to eight sessions. We also support schools in offering Art After school Club for children not interested in sports.
