Futures For Women (UK, 313700) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Futures for Women open paths for aspiring women of all ages and from all walks of life to rewarding careers and economic independence, through financial support for their professional and vocational training at times of need. Most of our interest-free loans, usually of £1000 each, will be for post-graduate degrees, and the diplomas and certificates required for professional or vocational qualifications. The loans are repaid at reasonable rates once the woman is in paid employment, so that the money can be re-cycled and used to support other women. 29% of our beneficiaries repay their loan in one instalment and the average repayment period is 15 months. Our charity was first established in 1859 by Jessie Boucherett, a leading player in the suffragette movement. Jessie devoted her life and considerable wealth to helping women train for professions which were previously unavailable to them.

Development Nepal is a small UK registered charity set up in 1999 and run entirely by volunteer trustees and advisers with no day to day overheads. Every £ we raise is spent in Nepal on our projects. We work with the poorest individuals and communities in the Sunsari district of Nepal. Development Nepal aims to improve access to essential resources and opportunities, and to help build the knowledge and skills of the communities. We know that this translates into a change in attitudes and practices. We achieve impact primarily through activities in five thematic areas in a programme called Ujyalo Bhabisya (meaning ‘A Brighter Future’). On a day-to-day level we implement Ujyalo Bhabisya through a network of 20 full-time Nepalese community facilitators (teachers), supported by a small team of local Nepalese staff. You can read more about our work in Nepal at our website. YTD Raised: n/a

CATO TRUST was originally set up in 2005 to give something back from the lucky few who managed to get into concerts free of charge. In the first 2 years of operation the charity raised nearly £500,000 throughout UK shows alone. Re-launching in January 2017 CATO TRUST will build upon its outreach work and branch into the education sector with one straightforward aim; to help young people into a higher education programme that will not only earn them a degree but will equip them with all the skills they need to turn their qualification into a life-long career. We want to open 5X not-for-profit venues run solely by brilliant young people that will be the breeding grounds for young technical professionals to meet up-and-coming bands/acts. These locations will help connect those starting off in the industry to the future Coldplay, Bastille, the 1975 or Muse and help them carry them on their journey together. Dreams will come true in these venues! And as well live venues we also want to start an annual travelling festival that provides newly qualified students the opportunity to work in real-life situations. It’s vital that we open these opportunities to everyone, not just the ones whose families can afford it. This way we can ensure that the industry is seeded with passionate, talented individuals from all kinds of backgrounds and you too can play your part in nurturing the future talent of the Industry.
