3rd Farnham Scout Group (UK, 305739) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Welcome to 3rd Farnham Scout Groups fund raising web site with the goal of raising the funds necessary for a much needed refurbishment and repair of its 200 year old headquarters, Daniel Hall, located in the centre of Farnham. Fund raising through grants and other activities has been very successful. Sue Hepburn and Robert Humphrey, who are leading the grant applications, have secured over £180k towards the £220k target. The major grants have come from Farnham Buildings Preservation Trust, SITA Trust and Surrey County Council Community Improvement Fund. Smaller but still vital grants have been gained from Betty Riseley Trust, Round table, Lions and Farnham Institute. This refurbishment is vital to ensure that the group continues to offer adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for young people in central and east Farnham. Without this work the group will not be able to continue its success in doubling its membership in the last 10 years. The repair and refurbishment will provide both structural and amenity improvements including the following: When refurbished, the hall will provide a community facility that is currently missing from the central town area. Background and History 3rd Farnham Scout Group has been established for over 100 years. Our approach focuses on: Daniel Hall has been part of Farnham’s heritage for over 200 years and is listed as a building of local historic significance. It has been a home for Scouting for over 80 years, the Scout Shop for over 30 years and, more recently, a home for a Girl Guiding Company. The Scout Shop provides a service across Surrey and Hampshire with all profits going to support Scouting in Farnham. The building started life supporting the brewing industry as a hop and grain store and latterly became a furniture store. In 1929 it became the new home for the 3rd Farnham Scout Group. The hall was named after Arthur Daniel who was Group Scout Leader at the time and who played a key role in raising the funds to buy the building.

Bradford Disability Services Limited (UK, 700084) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Bradford Disability Services Limited, better known as Disability Advice Bradford (DaB) and Disability Equipment Bradford (DeB) is a long established and respected Registered Charity. The organization was first established as The Bradford Voluntary Action Group for Disabled Persons in 1979 as a result of five disabled people coming together to press for their rights and to overcome the discrimination in many aspects of daily life that can affect the lives of disabled people. The ‘office’ was a room in one of the founder member’s houses. Since then the charity has evolved in many ways but the organizations core values still remain the same. Our aim is to empower people with disabilities, carers and their families, living within the Bradford Metropolitan District, to achieve and lead a high quality of life within a modern and inclusive society. We will achieve this by providing professional, non-judgmental and confidential services that will facilitate and improve independent living and equality.

The Marlow Bottom Pre-School Playgroup is a popular and successful Pre-School, catering for the needs of children between 2 and 5 years of age. We provide a happy, warm and friendly environment where children can thrive and learn under the supervision of trained, caring and competent staff. The Pre-school is a charitable, non-profit making organisation and fees alone do not provide all the funds we need in order to offer all the vital equipment and resources required to provide a wide variety of activities for the children. Each year we have a fundraising target that goes towards the running costs, the purchase of new equipment, days out for the children and improvements to the Pre-school. It also enables us to provide a free healthy eating initiative for all the Children which consists of fresh fruit and vegetable snacks twice a day. Additional funds can help us to provide valuable resources to ensure we can offer our staff essential or necessary training which isn't always funded by the local council. It also allows us to fund extra staff hours for when we may need to provide important one-to-one time for any of our children who may need it for whatever reason. YOUR SUPPORT IN OUR FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!

AKAMBA AID (UK, 1083554) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Akamba Aid works in the north-east province of Kenya, in the Horn of Africa, one of the most arid parts of the world, among some of the poorest people in Africa. Most are living on an income of less than one dollar (60p) a day. Famine is a constant neighbour, and needless to say because of the poverty, basic Education and Healthcare are difficult to afford. Since 1999 Akamba Aid, a small Somerset based charity has been trying to give the communities some of the basic essentials of life, that we enjoy and have done for generations. WHAT DO WE DO? Clean Water  Together with our sister charity the "Wishing for a Well Appeal" we construct shallow wells (60 - 100ft. deep) and fit Afridev hand pumps in suitable locations to provide clean, fresh, safe water, for the first time. For many this is the first time they have tasted water free from the many diseases which contaminate the traditional sources. Food   In times of drought and famine we provide emergency food aid rations to poor families, especially the elderly, children and orphans. This is to supplement the rations given by Kenyan government and UN supplies. Affordable Healthcare  We build new health facilities and support several others with building maintenance and equipment.  Our "Harambee" scheme offers discount cards to the poor to halve the cost of out-patient treatment at rural clinics, and pays the premium of  the state NHIF insurance scheme which gives free in-patient care at state hospitals. Education  Primary education is now compulsory and "free" in Kenya, although buildings and equipment must be provided by the communities who suffer from poverty. AAF builds new classrooms for schools where needed to a higher standard  and helps with equipment. We also have a small number of bright students who receive assisted sponsorships at secondary schools. 2009-09-02
