The GCR 567 Locomotive Group has been formed to construct a classic Victorian express steam locomotive using original designs and modern techniques. Once combined with the carriages of the Great Central Railway Rolling Stock Trust it will re-create a typical Edwardian train from the early years of the Great Central Railway’s London Extension. These elegant 4-4-0s, designated Class 2, were the pride of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (MS&LR). Indeed the GCR’s legendary first Chairman, Sir Edward Watkin, was so pleased with his Class 2, it was immortalised as the locomotive which features in the company crest. While we’ll incorporate some minor changes, the new 567 will be externally indistinguishable from its predecessors. The project is well underway at its base at the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) (GCRN) site in Ruddington just south of Nottingham. The frames have been constructed and the project has benefited from major donor components including a cylinder block, GCR tender and coupling rods. It is estimated it could be complete in 4 to 7 years at a cost of around half a million pounds with £200,000 already raised It is a very exciting new build locomotive project that will bring the sights, sounds and smell of Victorian mainline express travel back to life. Regular donations will help us achieve our goal as we focus on completing the locomotive. See www.gcr567loco.co.uk for further details
Keeping Children Safe sets tough International Child Safeguarding Standards to ensure organisations do all they can can to protect children in their care. Put simply, that means training staff to prevent abuse. Helping children and others report abuse. And helping to bring abusers to justice.
Our purpose as a charity is to purchase non-NHS funded medical equipment to support St George’s Medical Centre, which services Littleport and the surrounding area, and to provide additional facilities to the locality. We have bought a range of equipment over the past 20 years. Recent purchases include: a resuscitation trolley, bladder scanners (diagnosing bladder issues), Feno monitors (lung problems), Electrocardiograms (heart tracing monitors), practice examination beds, leg Doppler machines (circulation problems), and a patient information system and screen for the waiting area. Locally provided services are important as Littleport and the surrounding area is c. 25 miles from the nearest major hospital. We support an outreach oncology service. Addenbrooke’s Hospital send trained medical staff to St George’s for oncology treatment. It means patients receive treatment for cancer in a safe, local environment. We helped St George’s with funding for a trial Venesection service – for patients with Haemachromatosis (iron overload). We have also set up four public access defibrillators in Littleport and Southery villages These are used frequently by the East of England Ambulance Service. Keeping them supplied with pads and batteries is an ongoing cost.
