Our vision is to be a thriving community centre that enables local residents to reach their potential and take pride in where they live; to be at the heart of the community as a voice; listening to and empowering local people. Our mission is to bring out the best in each person and the community through promoting cohesion and a sense of community spirit. Through the SYDNI Centre in particular, we enable local people to access facilities, resources and support in social activity, signposting, sport and education.
Chrysalis supports transgender people and their significant others through one-to-one counselling, workshops, facilitated group work, peer mentoring, training, advocacy and outreach across five locations in Hampshire & Dorset. Since 2005 we have supported transgender people through all stages of their exploration of their gender identity. The support we offer provides a lifeline to trans people: “Chrysalis saves lives! When I joined Chrysalis I was in a very dark and confusing place. Chrysalis helped me to come to terms with myself and sort my thoughts out to lead a better life for me and my family.” – Cassie In 2012 we increased our services offered to include confidential safe spaces and counselling to those affected by someone else’s gender identity issues. Our ‘Significant Other Support (SOS)’ groups give parents and partners a place for their own discussions and help. In supporting family units, Chrysalis assists families to stay together or reconnect. Since 2005, we have supported over 500 beneficiaries and around 100 people currently access our services and we aim to increase service provision to another 50 people by the end of 2018. Typically beneficiaries stay with Chrysalis for six months to two years, receiving 16-24 sessions of free one-to-one counselling and many return as volunteers. Our current board of nine trustees has six former beneficiaries and we have a team of 42 volunteers.

We also run a Baby Bank, providing clothing, toys, nappies, baby food and hygiene goods for children under 5 years old.
