Jo’s Dreams helps people with life threatening kidney failure. This is classed as grade 4/5 kidney disease and means that the patient is often on a gruelling dialysis routine. We also help people who have had a long period of time on dialysis. Jo’s Dreams will coordinate and organise the funding to provide an individual with an experience of their choice. It is aimed to help provide people with a memory that can never be taken away from them or their family and loved ones. Jo’s Dreams can provide an experience that will be unique to that person. They may want something as simple as trip to the cinema with friends or a weekend in London to see a show. Others may be more daring – it’s really up to them. The dream is their choice …… we will make it happen by funding and organising it for them – making it tailored to suit their needs. It will be a special time to always be remembered. The experience will have to fall within our funding criteria. Joanne Horobin died on 3rd August 2011, aged 48, in the arms of her family. Jo had a dream that she talked about hours before she died ...... Kidney failure took her precious life too soon and had a dramatic effect on her quality of life. Jo spent the last five years of her life fighting kidney disease. During this time Joanne’s life was ruled by dialysis sessions at Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. Jo saw the suffering of many terminally ill people and wanted her legacy to help them a break from the mundane routine of a “normal” dialysis week. So many people often have very little to look forward to apart from endless rounds of hospital visits, dialysis treatments and the prospect of living with this kidney disease for years. Jo wanted others to have a good time - she wanted families to have special memories together. Our sister knew that setting up Jo’s Dreams would help others in this terrible situation which is so hard to bear. Jo’s Dreams is a tribute to Joanne Horobin’s courage, determination and sheer love of life ……….. Sadly gone but never forgotten.

We're a Boys Brigade Company based in Kilsyth, Scotland raising money for the village of Katete in Malawi. For years we've worked with Katete: working with Mary's Meals, we built a kitchen at the local school so each child could get one meal a day in their place of education; following the massive increase in attendance at the school, we worked with Classrooms for Malawi to renovate some of the school's classroom and visited in June 2014 to help with the work. Now we're continuing fundraising to keep helping the school and the village. We hope to be able to pay for the renovation of the church which also serves as 2 classrooms during the week, so the people of Katete have a place both to worship and to learn, before hopefully returning in the summer of 2016 in order to give out the many goods and clothes that have been donated to us for the most vulnerable pupils at the school.
End violent conflict. It's our purpose -- our call to action. Conflict and differences are inevitable. Violence is not. We partner with people around the world to ignite shared solutions to destructive conflicts. We work at all levels of society to build sustainable peace through three main avenues: Who we are: We're a non-profit peace-building organization in 35 countries around the world. 83% of our team members are working in their home countries. They are constantly creating innovative ways to help their neighbors transform the way they deal with conflict, away from violence toward joint problem-solving. The Details: Instead of tearing down an existing world, we focus on constructing a new one. We do this through a type of peacebuilding called “conflict transformation.” Meaning: we look to change the everyday interaction between hostile groups of people, so they can work together to build up their community. Our response to conflict doesn’t have to be violence. In fact, though it’s not easy, conflict is an opportunity to make the situation better for everyone involved. In order to work with all sides of a conflict, we have to remain impartial. We do not take a political, religious, or “good guys vs. bad guys” stance on a situation. We work at every level of society to promote individual, social, and institutional change. We're committed to measuring the results of our work.
