Supporting Disabled Children In Hospital, In Hospices & At Home The Ella Bear Fund was set-up in memory of Ella Murray, who had a rare genetic disorder - Miller-Dieker Syndrome. The fund aims to improve the lives of disabled children and their families by providing equipment and well as supporting children's hospices and hospitals.Something as simple as having sensory toys available in hospital to give a child some entertainment can make a real difference.A specialist seat can be the difference between a 2 week hospital stay for a chest infection and managing to stay at home to recover.A specially adapted wheelchair can be the difference between a life stuck at home or the ability to go for a walk in the fresh air with your family. They may seem like simple things, but your donations can ensure that disabled children get the little things in life that mean the world and make their lives a little bit easier. Raising money to support local causes large and small from individuals to organisations involved in all aspect of the local community and also international disasters supported by Lions International. We have secured international disaster funds for funding to support those affected by flooding in our local towns of Malton & Norton. We provide a subsidised fish and chips round to old people in Malton and Norton during the winter months and help organisations and families with all kinds of needs from practical help, moving items of furniture and clearing out buildings to financial help to make ends meet in emergency situations. We provide parties for special need children and even a week’s holiday on the beautiful north Yorkshire coast for those who otherwise would not get any kind of holiday. We raise the money for all this with two main events; We invite Santa to join us with our specially built sleigh, and we then spend 2 weeks taking him and the sleigh around Malton, Norton and all the surrounding villages. It has become an event all look forwards to, young and old alike and it raises a significant amount of money, we are supported in this by local businesses who kindly sponsor us. In the summer we run a Golf Day at Sandburn Manor and raise a great deal of money through the golf teams and sponsorship, a good time is had by all. Lions consider all kinds of request for support and are keen to help anyone who is genuinely struggling with ordinary life and the unfortunate things it can from time to time throw at us.
