The Talent Tap (UK, 1183124) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Talent Tap is a social mobility charity with a mission to meaningfully change the lives of talented state educated students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, by giving them the work experience, support, and network, that they need to succeed in their chosen careers. The reality of today’s job market is that many careers can only be accessed if the applicant can demonstrate appropriate work experience on their CV. Often unpaid, it is only the students who can afford to spend weeks at a time working for free that gain such experience. On top of this, access to work experience requires a network of contacts and an understanding of what opportunities are out there. In addition the requirement for accommodation and transport means that the barriers for most school leavers are very high. The Talent Tap addresses this by working with a network of schools and businesses to provide work experience placements and mentoring programmes, along with the financial support needed to allow talented students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, to take advantage of these opportunities.

Home-Start Oldham, Stockport and Tameside (HOST) supports families with children under five by recruiting and training volunteers to provide a wide range of support to local families. Home-Start volunteers help families with young children deal with the challenges they face. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.Home-Start's ethos is 'parents supporting parents' - all our volunteers are parents themselves, so they know how hard it can be, and are ideally placed to provide empathy and support to other families. Families struggling with post-natal depression, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement and many other issues receive the support of a volunteer who will spend around two hours a week in a family’s home supporting them in the ways they need.We also support families in groups, hold day trips and Christmas parties and help access local services, as well as lots of other support.Home-Start Oldham, Stockport & Tameside also provide Breastfeeding Support in Oldham and Tameside, giving support and advice to mums on their breastfeeding journey.  Charity No: 1135838 Find out more Website http://www.home-starthost.org.uk/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/homestarthost/?ref=hl Twitter https://twitter.com/HomeStartHOST YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/homestartuk

The Chris Aked Foundation (UK, 1177914) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

We provide support to the children of families dealing with cancer and other life affecting illnesses, offering help through physical and sporting activities, counselling and memory-making days. The Chris Aked Foundation was the idea of our dear friend, loving husband and father, Chris Aked. Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in April 2017, when his baby daughter was only 11 weeks old. He fought hard, and we were hopeful he would recover, but unfortunately the cancer was diagnosed too late and he died just five months later on 7th September 2017, aged only 33.He was the most determined person through his illness and wanted to support others facing adversity. Children are often sidelined during the traumatic period while a parent or sibling is fighting cancer and we want to give them the focus, support and care they require, at a time when they need it most. Please help us make a difference.
