(UK, 1168147) Browse eventsEast Park RDA is based at Little Brook Equestrian in Newchapel, and is a registered charity under the umbrella of Riding for the Disabled Association. We provide riding sessions for children with learning or physical disabilities from local schools. We run 8 sessions per week during term time, with 6 children per session, giving 48 children a week a chance to enjoy the benefits that riding brings to the disabled. We own 6 ponies ourselves, with others provided by Little Brook. Disabled individuals can also ride with us in small groups or on their own. We offer carriage-driving lessons in a specially built wheelchair accessible carriage, which is ideal for adults or older young people. We are entirely self-funded, and although the schools pay a fee, this does not cover the cost of the sessions, so we rely on fund-raising events, donations and grants to cover the annual shortfall. We are honoured to have Dame Judi Dench as our Group Patron. We also rely heavily on volunteers, up to three per rider, to assist the children. If you could spare a couple of hours a week to help out, we would love to hear from you. You do not need experience with horses as full training is given. The Bishops’ C of E and RC Primary School serves children and families from across Springfield and further afield. We would therefore like to improve the local facilities not just for the school, but for the local community, and we are proposing to build ‘The Bishops’ Community Hall’. The plans include simple kitchen facilities, changing rooms and shower rooms and toilets, all accessible for the disabled, and access from the School’s car park which means that the building is separate from the main school. We are seeking interest from local organisations who may wish to use this facility and we wish to align our aims with the long term aims of the local council to ensure that Springfield continues to develop its facilities to support the interests, aspirations and activities of local people.
