FreyaBeya (UK, 1118186) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Freya was a beautiful little girl, born in 1999 with several life-limiting conditions. She was never expected to see her 1st birthday but she celebrated 5 birthdays, each one with a big noisy party in the garden.  She communicated in her own special way, mostly by touch and she had the most infectious giggle. Her gorgeous rose-bud lips were adorable and they framed a fabulous smile. She was a joy to spend time with and everyone who met her could not stop themselves falling in love with her. Freya died on the 14th December 2004, at home surrounded by lights, music, and her family. She leaves behind a fantastic big brother Tom and has left a huge gap in our lives, one that we will never fill. Freya loved music and it became a huge part of our life, it provided valuable therapy for her and always soothed her if she was in pain. In Freya’s memory I have set up a charity called FreyaBeya which raises money to enable special needs school to buy in live music. The Arts are sadly very much forgotten within the narrow constraints of the National Curriculum!  FreyaBeya gives total freedom to teachers to introduce children to ANY type of music, allowing it to be child-led rather than curriculum-led. THIS IS A HUGE PLUS!!  The music ranges from Soundabout-type stuff (resonance boards right through to high-tech sound beams) through to any type of genre, depending on what motivates the child. Thank you for supporting FreyaBeya   Sarah-Jayne -  Freya’s Mama.

Invisible Children (UK, 1128466) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Invisible Children uses the power of media to inspire young people to help end the longest running war in Africa. Our model has proven effective, and hundreds of thousands of people have been called to action through our films and the volunteers that tour them.   Our approach to humanitarian work is founded in the strength and intelligence of the Ugandan community. We learned early on it was not only important but essential to heed the wisdom of people that had not only lived in the war, but were surviving it. People who would know better than anyone what the greatest needs were and the best ways to meet them.   What we came to find is that while there have been many efforts to address the issues that stem from living and fighting in such a long-lasting war, the people of Uganda are asking for a future beyond the conflict. Their pleas have become our development strategy.   All of our programming is a partnership between those of us at Invisible Children and those in the Ugandan community. We focus on long-term goals that enable children to take responsibility for their future and the future of their country. Our programs are carefully researched and developed initiatives that address the need for quality education, mentorships, the redevelopment of schools, resettlement from the camps, and financial stability.

Rockdale Housing Association Ltd (UK, 13507R) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Rockdale Housing Association was set up over 60 years ago with the aim of providing housing and care for older people in Sevenoaks. It was largely the result of the determination of one woman - Miss Beatrice Wilson - a gifted physiotherapist with a vision to improve the quality of older peoples lives in the town.   We have two beautiful sites just off the High Street in Sevenoaks, Kent, where we have over 150 sheltered flats and our residential care home, Rockdale House. Our priority at present is to raise funds to build a new, bigger residential care home on its site in Sevenoaks. This will allow us to continue to provide affordable accommodation and care for vulnerable older people well into the future. The Association is registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act on charitable model rules. It is also registered with the Tenant Services Authority and is a member of the National Housing Federation.

VOLUNTEERING CONNECTS CULTURES (UK, SC041317) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

VCC was established by Lynne Stewart who developed the charity from her own experiences of volunteering in India after leaving school. It is Lynne’s dream to offer others the life changing experience she benefited from. After finishing my sixth year at Elgin Academy, I went on a volunteer placement to India. From that experience I felt I became a more confident person and developed skills that I may not have if I hadn’t made that move. I would love to offer other people a similar experience. VCC has been set up to realise that dream. Lynne Stewart, Chairperson of VCC VCC not only gives volunteers the opportunity to gain new skills while learning about a different culture, but also, the opportunity to share their own skills and culture with those they meet and work with while on placement. VCC has developed a joint venture agreement with a children’s home in India and together we are offering volunteers the opportunity to work in the home to the benefit of all involved, the children and young people, the staff and YOU! VCC not only gives volunteers the opportunity to gain new skills while learning about a different culture, but also, the opportunity to share their own skills and culture with those they meet and work with while on placement.

Kings Theatre Trust Limited (UK, 1088254) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Kings Theatre works to be at the heart of our community in Portsmouth and enrich lives through the arts. Our aim is to provide the community with opportunities to experience and participate in high quality theatre and arts activities. We host Drama, Music, Dance and Comedy live shows. Our education work focuses on offering arts participation opportunities through tours, workshops and hands on experience. We firmly believe in training at work and working with young people. Passionate about offering young people opportunities to develop and gain experience in the performing arts, this work is cemented by regularly involving community groups, local schools and the Kings Youth Theatre. A recently opened Community Space will take our work in the community one step further by offering regular creative learning opportunities for everyone: weekly activities in arts, film, creative writing, dance, crafts, music and drama. We will focus on creating arts participation opportunities for individuals with limited resources. Designed by the great Edwardian theatre architect, Frank Matcham, and opened in 1907, the Kings is undergoing a continuing restoration programme that has already seen £2,000,000 spent on upgrading this historic grade 2 listed theatre. Fundraising Galas, bucket collections, grants and donations have all contributed to the efforts to raise the necessary funds for the work. Fancy fundraising for a thriving and exciting theatre? Then the Kings is waiting to hear from you!
