Our aim is to provide a community radio station, entertaining and informing our listeners. KCR first broadcast in 1997. We are a registered charity and are entirely self funding. It costs around £14,000/annum to run KCR - raised by fundraising events, sponsorship, donations and advertising. KCR is entirely run by volunteers. We have over 70 regular presenters. They present more than 60 shows - with a tremendous variety of music genres and dialogue programmes. Our youngest presenter is 10 years old and our oldest is over 80. The charity works with parents, grandparents, teachers and pupils, plus other members of the local community, to support the educational experiences of approximately 240 local children in the Ashton on Mersey area of Sale. It organises a wide variety of fund-raising events over the year, in order to fund the purchase of extra resources and equipment to enhance and enrich the learning opportunities for the children. The "Friends of Wellfield" provides an opportunity for parents, local businesses and community groups to engage with local children's education and make a difference to provide a deeper, richer learning experience. It makes links between different generations and helps parents have an more active role in their education.
