YTD Raised: £0.00

Greater Manchester Riding for The Disabled (GMRDA) offers horse riding to people with disabilities in Wythenshawe Park, South Manchester. Many people relish the recreational and therapeutic benefits that horse riding offers. Medical professionals recognise that there are also significant therapeutic benefits for the rider. The warmth and three dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the rider’s body, gradually making it more relaxed and supple, reducing spasms and improving balance, posture and coordination. Horse riding also helps with muscular development, coordination, balance, confidence and self-esteem. It is also an excellent sport for developing overall fitness and core strength and creating a unique bond between human and horse. Riding offers an element of risk, often denied to many people, especially those who have been affected by an accident or serious illness. It offers people the chance to regain mobility and a sense of achievement.

Power of Polo - change your line.... (UK, 1162382) Browse events

YTD Raised: n/a

Power of Polo is a new and unique, national charity. Our mission is to positively impact the lives of anyone facing social, economic or health challenges, utilising the sport of polo. Our strap line ‘change your line’ refers to how this sport can help you to change the direction of your life and is taken from the most important rule of the game – the line of the ball. Working with horses is well recognized in providing enormous benefit for mental and physical well-being. Polo adds a further dimension to this as a high paced team sport that combines demand for physical fitness with a need for discipline and focus. We believe that the experience of playing polo can positively impact a person's life by improving their self-confidence, their ability to work in a team and in many other ways personal to them. Through its targeted programmes, we partner with other charities to help identify those who may benefit from the experience polo has to offer, such as those undergoing rehabilitation from injury, those with long term heath issues (such as HIV) and those facing challenging socioeconomic conditions. Participants will gain experience of the sport in a safe and structured environment with fully accredited and trained HPA instructors. "Whilst we cannot significantly change a person’s current circumstance we believe that these opportunities may positively influence the way they view themselves and impact upon their future, thus improving and 'changing their line' "
