Maxine Wright Appeal for Hope (UK, 1138364) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

"Maxine Wright Appeal for Hope" is an independent Charity, set up to raise funds in memory of Maxine. As Maxine was so well known and loved within the Manchester area, we felt it was fitting to set-up something to ensure her name continues, and allow a way of her friends and family to honour this wonderful lady. MWAH was established in May 2010, and the response has been amazing. All proceeds raised enable MWAH to make Grants to cancer related charitable organisations that will help other people with regard to Malignant Melanoma, raise its awareness as well as providing equipment for the Critical Care Ward of The Christie Hospital in Manchester. In the fullness of time, we hope to extend this to MacMillan as well.

Welcome to Independent Choices The organisation was founded in 1978 as the Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline. We offer a range of direct support services to women experiencing domestic abuse in the Greater Manchester area and beyond. Each year three million women in Britain experience rape, domestic violence, stalking or other violence. Your help would greatly enable us to achieve our Vision, that all women and their dependents are made aware of their rights and offered choices so that they can live without the fear of domestic abuse. Thank you so much to the 32 runners who took to the streets of Manchester on 20th May for the 10km Manchester Run 2012!! It was a great day and everyone's efforts to both fundraise for and promote the helpline are much appreciated! The Helpline recieves over 5,500 incoming contacts each year and with recent funding cuts we need your support more than ever!! Organise your own event!- If you have an event and would like to donate to the Helpline then please let us know and we will support you where we can- Thank you! Other information The focus of the work of the organisation includes the services of the Women’s Domestic Abuse Helpline which receives over 5,500 calls each year. One seventh of the calls are from the South Asian community and we meet this need  through our Community Language Helpline Service in Urdu and Punjabi. We couldnt do all this work without the support of dedicated volunteers. A key part of our work is to ensure there is a high level of awareness in society of domestic abuse and its effects to well being. We believe that we can all have a role to support or help others who maybe suffering. Domestic abuse is not just physical violence but can also be emotional, sexual, economic and psychological. We work to ensure that women and children do not suffer in silence and that there is a choice of support and advice services in Greater Manchester from prevention to crisis.
