Following on from our success of the British 10k run from previous years, CMHA are looking to bring together a team of volunteers for a fun 10k run this July 2013. We specialize in working with people who have little self esteem or confidence; offenders; people with mental health issues; and behaviour issues. Based just outside the centre of Newcastle we are ideally based to travel to any part of the North East. An essential part of learning and personal development, whatever people's age or circumstances, is to experience the world beyond the school, home or work environment. We provide the opportunity for people to take part in quality outdoor education programmes that can become one of the most memorable learning experiences of their lives. We help people to make sense of the world around them by making links between feelings and learning. These experiences can effect behaviour, lifestyle and work; they can influence values and decisions. We help people to discover what alraedy exists within themselves ... as Michaelangelo said, "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free".

The Shonda Project (UK, 1075035) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Set up in 1993 by Mick and Angela Prentice, the St Johns First School now thrives with around 350 young children. The school is administered by an elected body of local villagers and receives no help from the Government. Each month the Shonda Project sends funds to pay the salaries of the 13 teachers. There are a high number of single parent families due to a local ferry tragedy some years ago and the ravages of Aids, but those parents who can afford to pay school fees do so. Christmas appeal ~ 2013 Many of the children in Shonda have not travelled even to local attractions, let alone elephants which are only 2 hours away! So we would like to raise some money to send the children on a local school trip - £10 will pay for two children to go ~ a small price to pay for much joy ... Hands up who wants to go on a school trip?!!

YTD Raised: £0.00

Bethany Village Leprosy Society (BVLS) is a small, UK-based charity which raises funds to support positive social development and welfare programmes in a self-established and run south Indian leprosy colony called Bethany. BVLS helps Bethany to find alternatives to begging for the 1,000 or so people resident there, who, because of the stigma associated with leprosy, have difficulty in finding alternative employment. We provide funds to help run the communitys clinic, elementary school and a range of income generation schemes -- including the production of bags and table linen -- as well as direct funding for the healthy sons and daughters of people affected by leprosy to undertake vocational training or degree-level education. All this support helps Bethany move towards its goal of self-sufficiency. As a small charity, run entirely by volunteers, BVLS sends all donations 100% to Bethany, covering its minimal administrative costs from a small proportion of regular supporters membership fees.
