INSAAF (UK, 1182275) Browse events

YTD Raised: £16,061.20

We bring emergency support to refugees around the world to help with their most basic needs in time of crisis: food, clothing and shelter. Our group is entirely made of volonteers from the UK, intent on making the most impact from our modest contribution. We want to raise awareness of the refugee issue, and thanks to your donations, bring help directly to those who need it most. Insaaf started as an informal group of friends in December 2015, right in the middle of the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe. As images of thousands of refugees crossing the sea and trekking accross Europe were mass broadcast on TV and in newspapers, we had to act and do something about it. Thanks to friends, colleagues and family, we raised £8000 in three weeks to fund a first convoy to the refugee camp of Dunkirk in France, where over a thousand people lived in dire conditions in the middle of winter. We brought them tents, firewood, warm boots and other much needed essentials. Since then, Insaaf has grown and is now a Registered Charity. We have travelled back to France on many occasions and much further afield to places in Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, and Bangladesh, supporting Syrian and Rohingya refugees. We have learned more about the people who had to leave everything behind and have heard their stories. With your help we want to continue going to them with whatever help and comfort we can offer. It is our duty, their right.

Wycombe Homeless Connection (UK, 1156211) Browse events

YTD Raised: £15,967.72

WHC helps homeless or at-risk people in High Wycombe, Bucks to rebuild their lives by assisting them not only to find or keep accommodation but also to develop skills to achieve a stable lifestyle. Homelessness has a variety of causes, including family breakdown, unemployment, drug or alcohol abuse and poverty. It’s been said we are all two pay-checks away from homelessness. WHC is a community project of local churches. WHC’s first initiative was the Wycombe Winter Night Shelter (WWNS), which provides over 800 bed-nights to around 50 individuals annually. Since then, WHC has added year-round advice and resettlement services.  WHC helps over 250 single homeless adults annually – largely those for whom the local authority has little responsibility. In the year to April 2012, WHC helped 87 find accommodation and prevented the eviction of 15 others. In over a thousand one-to-one support meetings each year, WHC’s housing crisis intervention team provides benefits and housing advice, referrals to specialist agencies, advocacy with official bodies, mediation with families and introductions to landlords or therapeutic communities. They help clients achieve outcomes relating to health, purposeful activity, resolving benefits issues and tackling harmful behaviours. WHC works in partnership with the local council, probation service, accommodation providers and other specialist agencies. The charity has about 300 committed volunteers who help run its services efficiently. There were over 2700 attendances at day sessions by around 240 people. It costs about £140,000 per year to provide WHC’s services. Please help if you can: donations of any size are welcome, but regular donations are especially valuable as they help with planning ahead.  The photos in the gallery show aspects of WHC's work and a couple of shots to promote its forthcoming sleep-out event... More information about WHC’s work, current events and volunteering opportunities is available on the website.

Anxious minds (UK, 1164040) Browse events

YTD Raised: £15,900.15

Anxious Minds was started because of a lack of good quality, free support that can be accessed by anybody at short notice. Anxiety and depression suffering is a waste of life. We believe nobody should suffer alone just because you can’t afford to pay for treatment, or because you’re on somebody’s waiting list. Suffering from anxiety or depression can mean years of feeling lonely and isolated, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Modern psychology has learned a great deal about anxiety and depression in the last decade. They are both highly treatable, and can be reduced and managed successfully with the right support and treatment. Together we can beat anxiety and depression. A positive attitude and understanding that you can, and will, recover is crucial. Our program is delivered by people who have, or have had, anxiety and depression at some point in their lives, and are making a recovery or are totally cured. Anxious Minds provides free confidential support for all suffers of anxiety and depression. We also focus on prevention, and on dealing with stress by using education and research-based relaxation techniques.
