Our main focus has been on working in poor communities, in partnership with organisations representing the most vulnerable young people in those communities, particularly in Zambia. We work with local partners on initiatives which assist them to become self-sufficient and sustainable. We work closely with local organisations, groups and leaders to assess the communities overall needs and to identify the most efficient and effective means of addressing these issues. We strive to ensure that the efforts made by agencies, foundations, companies, individuals and other supports of Alan Kerins Projects are more than matched by our own efforts to deliver maximum impact from our programme of work.

We currently have projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua, Tanzania and Uganda and work alongside local communities in carrying out small-scale development projects which respond to local needs. UCDVO works on projects in the areas of education, environment, healthcare, construction and information technology. By channelling the skills, energy and enthusiasm of university students into such activities, communities can access a source of support to improve the quality of life in their area. UCDVO not only provides opportunities for volunteers and host communities to share and develop skills, it also generates greater understanding and respect for differing cultures and life experiences.
