Wheels and Wheelchairs

YTD Raised: £2,195.00We are a group of London based skaters, rollerbladers and wheelchair users who go out together as a group on a regular basis. Our aim is to raise awareness of the difficulties that wheelchair users encounter on a daily basis, and we want to encourage wheelchair users to live more active lives, through their participation in outdoor sports. The wheelchair users are pushed by the skaters, and together we cover a distance of 5 to 12 miles. Our joint trips usually start in one of London’s main parks, and we also use carefully chosen routes through Central London, taking in major landmarks and attractions Our Street Strolls are always marshalled by the skaters who go ahead of the main group and stop the traffic, to ensure the safety of the entire group. Another group of marshals will always maintain a presence behind the main group to make sure that no one gets left behind, and that other road users are aware of our presence on the road. As a group of able bodied and disabled friends, we go out together about once or twice a month. Through our joint efforts, we achieve what neither group would be able to do on their own. Together, we can.

The Foundation is a charitable organisation set to provide support to charities engaged in education, training and regeneration. With an emphasis on working with charities helping those on low income, the work of the Foundation is to include both financial assistance and volunteer support. The Foundation select three charities every two years to be the focus of grant and fund raising activities carried out by partners and staff through personal challenges and sponsored events. Over the last three years over £90,000 has been donated to our supported charities to meet their individual projects.
