We audition over 1000 local youngsters every year for the prestigious places in the Workshop’s weekly training scheme - nurturing and developing gifted youngsters from 7-21 years of age. No talented child is ever turned away - we make sure bursaries are made available for those children from financially disadvantaged families. We are now an independent not-for-profit business and charity. Winners of the 2005 Special Bafta award for "its outstanding development of young talent for film and television", the Workshop is recognised by casting directors and agents as a centre of excellence. Ex-Workshopper, Workshop patron and Oscar-nominated actress Samantha Morton talks of the Workshop's "professional and personal approach to discovering and maintaining talent in young people". Its alumni include award-winning writers, directors, producers, presenters and even Radio One DJs! RT55 hold regular meetings each fortnight, getting together for everything from Black Tie dinners to a game of football, or even something as simple a drink at the pub or a meal somewhere local. These social evenings are the lifeblood of the Round Table movement – bringing together groups of friends for a drink and a laugh. Each local Round Table club organises a few events each year to raise money. They vary from club to club, and can be anything from carnivals and bonfires to silent auctions and charity runs. Raising money is part of what table but what really matters is that Tablers get involved in their local communities, putting something back, and making a difference locally. There’s no obligation to commit a certain amount of time. All that clubs ask is you devote what time you have available, and often it’s a great way to develop new skills. In 2013 – 2014 charities that we donated to were: Childer - £1000Manchester Childen’s Hospital - £7500North West Air Ambulance - £ 500Rochdale Sea Cadets - £1000Young Carers - £500Rochdale Mind - £150.00Rochdale Hospice - £2500 Please assist us to help those that need it within our Local Community. We also have a Child and Family Centre which works with children and their carers in Govan. We do all of this as Christians passionate about the people that look to us for help. We want to share a message of hope and to demonstrate compassion.

For over 40 years The Pirate Castle, based in its unique Castle premises on the Regent’s Canal in Camden, has provided boating fun on the water for young people and adults of all ages! With the extension to the Castle which was completed in October 2008 we have fully accessible premises, with a lift, accessible toilets and showers and an induction loop. There is also significant new space for community activities (including a modern commercial kitchen). The charity promotes activities and training for young people whether as individuals or in school or other groups. Our aim is to share our enthusiasm and expertise with young people so as to allow them to gain in self confidence and develop life and social skills that will help them to achieve their full potential. To achieve our objectives we often work in partnership with other charities and groups and provide sessions on our two narrowboats, skippering, canoeing and kayaking as well as canal side indoor facilities for both local organizations and visiting groups. Our slogan is ‘Adventure on the canal for all’ so we welcome everyone to come and enjoy our facilities and enjoy the canal. Our main priority target group is disadvantaged young people – whether that disadvantage is economic, disability or other. The Pirate Castle is run by four full time staff and a dedicated team of Coaches and volunteers, who between them organise and run our water based activities and help to ensure the full community use of our large hall. The Castle is available for use seven days a week and when not needed for one of our club activities, our hall is available for hire. Indoor activities at the Castle have included theatre workshops, drumming sessions, yoga classes, council surgeries, children’s parties, excluded children’s activities, computer classes, martial arts, dance workshops and an evening youth club. The Castle is a registered charity with no government or local authority funding, being financed entirely by the ongoing generosity of our friends and supporters. Maintaining sufficient funding, especially in the current environment is a continual battle and monies are always urgently required and appreciated. We are currently specifically seeking funds for a fully accessible narrowboat. Activities are overseen by a management committee which meets monthly and by a supervisory board of trustees. Anyone wishing to get more information about The Pirate Castle or wishing to participate in its activities or to make a donation, please contact Gus Alston, our Club Activities Manager for further details.
