Giving Life Opportunities to Women (Glow) is a women's charity that runs out of City Life Centre - based in West Belfast. Glow wants to enable women to live full lives by discovering their value and purpose; to equip them to be influential within their family and community. Glow launched in 2008 as an idea from a group of women who shared the same vision to see women in our community discover their value, confidence, and self esteem. We started with personal development programmes and in 2011 registered with the charity commission. As of 2016 Glow has had over 300 women come through our programmes and discover value, skills, and confidence. We believe in holistic support for women, and so we offer a range of programmes that support different needs: personal development, health and nutrition, OCN job skills & employability, OCN mentoring, girl's personal development, and an arts/craft drop in. We believe women can not only take hold of their life's direction, but influence their family and peers within the community to do the same. Parkinson's EQUIP is a new charity helping people with Parkinson's who wish to improve their quality of life. Anyone with Parkinson's who wishes to become involved in either an arts or sports activity, but who is limited by cost can apply to us for a grant. We know that these activities are particularly helpful to people with Parkinson's. Involvement of this kind can only be of benefit to the person concerned and indirectly, those around them. We are also considering funding activity groups for people with Parkinsons' as this approach has the added benefits of economy of scale and social interaction. A great way to support us is to buy a copy of this high quality book of poetry and art written by three people who know. Chapter and Illuminating Verse is available simply by following the link to our website just on the left of this page. Remember, you get an excellent book and ALL the money goes to the charity. That's win-win. Our Secretary Tom Davenport and his daughter Grace completed the 300km Robert Louis Stephenson Trail in southern France. See their blog here and why not sponsor them - they did it for EQUIP.
