FESTIVAL SPIRIT MAKING DREAMS REALITY Festival Spirit makes the dream of going to a music festival reality; providing the full festival experience to young people who would not normally be able to enjoy one due to life-limiting illness or disability, our VIP's. We are passionate about helping people who never thought they could attend a festival to enjoy the experience safe in the knowledge that they will have the facilities, support and back up necessary for their condition. Carers are hand-picked to match the needs of our attendees (our VIP's) needs from straightforward feeding and showering to more complex routines. Our accommodation on site is in an amazing specially adapted tent with hard flooring and close to disabled facilities such as showers and toilets. Able-bodied "buddies" are matched up to VIP's to help them get around the festival site and to get the most out of the event, to see the bands they want to see and to attend all the other exciting activities on offer.

Educare Fund (UK, 1115467) Browse events

YTD Raised: £15.00

Educare Fund supports poor families in Lesotho (southern Africa) to keep bright girls in school to the end of secondary education. There is some government funding for primary and higher education, but it is not currently available to all. Often families are faced with the dilemma of choosing which children to put though secondary education. When families have to make a choice because they cannot afford to educate all their children, it is often the girls who end up leaving school. This means that they have little chance of attaining higher education and fully realising their potential. The education of the young women of Lesotho is especially important in the current climate of high local incidence of HIV AIDS because women bear most of the burden of care within families. Additionally, women are also the mainstay of child-rearing, laying the foundation for future generations. It is therefore, very important to ensure that they are well equipped for these roles. Educare Fund pays a proportion of the annual school fees for each girl. This way we work in partneship with the families, so that they retain a stake in the education of their children. The proportion of the fees provided by Educare Fund depends on the funds available, therefore the more money we raise, the more we can pass on to the sponsored girls. As a small charity, Educare Fund has relatively low outgoings so that practically all of the money raised is used to support the girls.Virtually all of the work of administering the charity is done by volunteers who believe passionately in the work of Educare Fund.

Making the social and educational benefits of music accessible to  hildren, young people and adults of the London Borough of Newham. Newham Music Trust (NMT) was established to promote music education in schools and communities throughout Newham. We work with thousands of young people each year delivering music tuition and educational projects in schools, colleges, community centres and other places of cultural importance.   Fundraising helps NMT to ensure access to low cost and free outstanding music education for many children and young people every year. Extension Activities: Poverty and unemployment is worse in Newham, the second most disadvantaged borough, than almost anywhere else in the UK. It is widely known that where some families in deprived areas may be unable to provide stable and comfortable living conditions for their children, youths can lack direction, motivation and confidence.  In addition to our high quality music education, NMT projects encourage independency and equip young people with life and social skills, reducing risk of unemployment and poverty in their futures. Newham Music Hub: NMT is Music Hub Leader for Newham – appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) and supported by Arts Council England in 2012 as part of the government’s National Plan for Music Education. The Music Hub partnership galvanizes the resources of music, educational, arts, cultural and community organisations, evaluating the needs of the borough and targeting the areas of greatest impact.  It signposts services for young people to discover the many different learning environments, progression and career pathways across a diverse range of music activities throughout the South East.
