Bayford Mission Hall Society (UK, 1162549) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Bayford Mission Hall Society is set up to preserve and utilise the Bayford Hall for the benefit of the community. The Bayford Mission Hall Society was set up in July 2015 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) to purchase, renovate and maintain this small Hall in Bayford, Somerset for the benefit of the community in Bayford & Stoke Trister and surrounding areas. The Hall was gifted to Bayford Community in the 19th Century by a resident. Over the years it has been in Trust with the Bath & Wells Diocese. However, last year the Diocese decided it was non-viable to continue to maintain the chapel as it required major renovations & repairs. The community overwhelmingly decided it should be purchased & owned by them and the Bayford Mission Hall Society was born. Since then, we have fund raised with various local events & grants from local organisations to enable us to purchase the building. We continue to fundraise to facilitate the repairs & renovations required to make the Hall safe and user-friendly for everyone including providing disabled access. Please donate to support our cause. Magic Me (UK, 328331) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Carolyn's Run for Cocktails in Care Homes! “I think what you are doing is very good. You know, it livens the place up a bit. It is nice to have the sound of laughter and people enjoying themselves” Care Home resident On 22nd June, Magic Me Volunteer Carolyn will be running 13.1 miles to raise money for Cocktails in Care Homes, she has been volunteering since 2012: "When I was little I used to visit my own Grandma in her care home, and would always leave feeling sad because of the many residents who didn't have family or friends to visit them. It can be such a lonely place for many people, and as soon as I learned of the Cocktails in Care Homes initiative I knew it was a perfect project for me to get involved in. Those that know me well will know how much I will struggle with every step of the way, so please support me to raise money for this fantastic charity so we can keep bringing some fun to many more care home residents." Cocktails in Care Homes brings fun and glamour to care home residents! Every week Magic Me volunteers visit an East London care home to host an evening cocktail party. Residents get dressed up and look forward to the special occasion. For many this is the only visit they get and residents enjoy begin in touch with the wider community. This year we have hosted 41 parties for over 152 older people and over 134 volunteers at five London care homes. To throw a cocktail party costs £100 which includes:    About Magic Me "Magic Me is the best thing going on, because it is actually changing people’s lives" Young participant, aged 9. Magic Me runs creative arts projects which bring together young people 9+ and older people, 55+, to build a stronger, safer community. Week by week young people and older adults meet together in schools, care homes, older peoples centres and after-school clubs, working on a shared activity: learning photography, writing poetry, creating a theatre piece or a mosaic to decorate a local wall.  Participants are encouraged and supported to work together, so that real relationships can develop. Activities are led by professional artists, and designed to cater for both age groups, fostering conversation and an exchange of ideas. Based in Tower Hamlets, East London, every year we work with over 500 local people from different generations, cultures and ethnicities. Magic Me challenges negative stereotypes of young people and elders. It also gives people of all ages a way to get involved in their community and stay connected, to learn new skills and pass on expertise. In 2011 we expanded our new project Cocktails in Care Homes, which has proven really popular since we launched it in Autumn 2010. Our team of young adult volunteers run monthly cocktail hours for residents in 6 local care homes, a chance for older people to dress up, chat with new people and stay in touch with the wider community beyond their four walls. "Magic Me has turned my life around, I want to get up in the morning and do things. Ive got something to get up for." Man, 80+, taking part in a weekly photography project with teenage students.
