(UK, 1163411) Browse eventsThe aim of SPACE is to provide a local, fun, safe and accessible environment in which children with disabilities and additional needs can play. Also opportunities for parents and carers to meet and provide mutual support. The charity has been founded by mums who have children with disabilities and additional needs. Through our own experience we have found that there is very little support for families with young children with disabilities/additional needs and locally there are no accessible play areas. Our goal is to increase the support and opportunities through continuing to provide our 'stay and play', 'little stars' and parent support sessions. We aim to raise enough money to open our own centre so that we can support more children and their families.

After a one million pound redevelopment, Portishead Youth Centre is a community centre by day and a youth club by night. The Portishead Youth Centre was officially opened on Saturday May 21st 1966 at a total cost of £18,000 and within a year the centre was expanded further in 1967 to include an all weather play area and an arts room. The Youth Centre was leased by North Somerset Council to a voluntary committee who manage the centre on behalf of the town of Portishead. This has all changed though. North Somerset Council removed funding for youth work and youth clubs from April 2012. With changes to funding, Portishead Youth Centre is moving towards using the amazing facilities to the full with support from the local community.

Founded in 2009 by former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, after the loss of his mum Eileen to cancer in 2008, we have worked to raise £7m to date, originally for various charities and since 2 years, specifically for Cancer Research UK and the UK-arm of the ground-breaking ICGC research project (International Cancer Genome Consortium). Additionally, in the wake of the London riots, we have endeavored to nurture youth engagement for a better society, and believe that there is no better way to address this than via sport, especially one such as rugby which exhorts strong community values. Since 2012, we are thus building, funding and delivering our own project, a very ambitious youth development and social inclusion programme: Dallaglio Foundation Rugby For Change. Alongside a Rugby Scholarship programme for highly talented young rugby players, it uses rugby as the vehicle to target at risk youths, and gives them the opportunity to become part of a team while tackling serious social issues, from youth crime, to lack of engagement in education. For youth as for research, from the most talented needing financing right through to the disadvantaged needing motivation and purpose, via our events or delivering our programmes, we will find a way to help.
