(UK, EW00333) Browse eventsACTION THIS DAY KENYA funds Kookaburra Community School in Bamburi, just outside of Mombasa, Kenya. Kookaburra is a primary school with 130 pupils aged between 5 and 16. We provide education, health care, orphan care and hope to children who would otherwise have none. Many of our children have suffered physical and sexual abuse in the past and we provide them with a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn and grow. Once our children graduate from primary school, we link them to sponsors who fund them through high school or a vocational course, in order to give them the best possible chance in life. At Kookaburra, we believe that sustainable education is the key to improving a child's future and that of their community. When we ask our children what they want to do when they grow up, almost all of them say that they want to earn money so they can send it back to support children like them who need help too. This truly sums up the ethos of Kookaburra COMMUNITY School.

We deliver services to families in Oxfordshire and we train practitioners from around the country to use our programmes. The Peep Learning Together Programme starts where parents and carers already are. We build on what parents are already doing with their children. By sharing information about child development in an informal, accessible way, we can encourage parents to listen and talk to their children, to share songs, rhymes, books and stories, and just to have fun playing with them.
