Cholsey Pre-school aims to provide high quality, affordable and accessible childcare for children aged three to five years, in a safe and supportive environment, and to work in partnership with parents, the Cholsey Primary School, Foundation Unit, and local authority, in the provision of childcare in Cholsey. We cater for young children in Cholsey, providing a secure and stimulating environment for them to learn through play. All parents in Cholsey and the surrounding area can register their child and so have an affordable alternative to the childcare offered by local private nurseries. Last year Cholsey Pre-school was awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted and this is mainly down to the dedication and commitment of the staff. Please support them and help them raise money for Cholsey Pre-School. Many thanks from all the children at Cholsey Pre-school.
We have a partnership with a High School in Zambia and through this partnership have developed links with four Basic Schools and an Orphanage. Our partnership allows for students from our school to go to Zambia to train Sports Leaders and Student Mentors who then work in the school and the local Lusaka community. To date we have trained over 500 students who then work in the local Basic schools running PE programmes and After School Clubs. We have set up a link with an orphanage in Lusaka and when we go out next year have plans to help to improve their facilities - decorating rooms, taking out furniture where they have none, building outdoor play equipment. We will also be raising funds to purchase Lifestraws to be taken out to the orphanage because they have no clean running water in the building and this will help provide clean water for them. We have also set up links with Rotary clubs in Lusaka and have initiated a Rotaract club for students who have left the High School to join and where they can develop community projects in their local area. This Libala Rotaract Club is linked to our own Rotaract club and the two groups of young people between the ages of 18 and 25 are working together to improve the life chances of these children in the orphanageWe go out to Zambia alternate years and during the other year we raise the money to bring students and teachers from the High School to the UK. This is to give them the opportunity to come to the UK, visit lots of places of interest, go into our local schools to deliver workshops to the children and they have delivered presentations to major Rotary functions. We cannot continue our programme without donations and support from the numerous friends of our programme both here and in Zambia. Freedom to Learn is a UK based charity which works to provide the opportunity of education to children from some of the remotest regions of the Himalayas and South Asia. A major part of our work is in Nepal where we work with 13 state schools. All of them, and the communities they serve, were badly damaged by the 2015 earthquakes, 82% of homes were destroyed. While the world’s attention wanes young people in Nepal inspire us with their pragmatic, positive and energetic approach to making their country a better place. Supporting their dedication and recovery will inspire them in turn. FtL is now focusing on re-building livelihoods, homes and schools. In the face of such sorrow and devastation there is now new and genuine optimism. There is a wealth of opportunity for re-building local stable micro-economies, creating better quality school environments and earthquake proof, environmentally friendly, economically sound homes and schools for future generations. This would not be possible without the understanding, generosity and action of our fab supporters - THANK YOU!
