YTD Raised: £10,143.39In 2013 the staff of Pound Gates and Sevatas started to support an Ipswich based charity called Kenyan School Fund. The Fund was running a school in Mombasa with the desire to build a new school in Nyiera, western Kenya. During 2014 the businesses organised two events specifically to raise funds for this new school and in November 2014 building of the school commenced. In January 2015 we established The Soma Leo Foundation and registered it with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Soma Leo took on the responsibility to raise the funds necessary to establish the school, invest in further phases of development and meet its ongoing running costs. Soma Leo is Swahili. It translates as “learn today”. The name has in part been selected by the community we will initially be supporting. The school is called Soma Leo Nyiera Academy. Following a Trustee visit to Kenya in September 2015 we have identified additional priorities to support other schools near Nyiera, in an area called Osieko, and generally help the wider community which suffers with severe poverty. Directors, managers and staff at Pound Gates and Sevatas are involved with the charity either as Trustees or by providing all the administrative resources the charity requires. YTD Raised: £9,774.00CHIPTA is the Parent Teacher Association for Coombe Hill infant School. Its aim is to assist in the provision of facilities for education at the school by engaging in activities which support the school and promote the education of the pupils. All parents of the school are automatically members of CHIPTA. What this means in practice is that CHIPTA undertake a variety of fund raising activities for the school, which not only raises much needed funds to enrich the school and the education of the children, but promotes a deep feeling of community and a fun environment for both parents and children. Examples are Christmas and Summer Fairs, Adult and Children Disco and Film Nights, Mobile Phone and Cartridge Recycling and many other activities. Projects funded from past money raised include: Adventure Playground upgrade including non slip safety surfaces and paths; Refurbishment of swimming pool changing rooms; Providing recyclable water bottles for every child; Storage sheds; Garden improvements to enrich the childrens' outdoor teaching experience; and Murals for a quiet area in the playground.

Its primary purpose is to ensure that those of real ability (and whom it believes can succeed) are not precluded from coming to the Bar by a lack of financial resources. The principal criteria for awarding scholarships are the quality of the applicant and his/her commitment to the principles of independent practice. All scholarships are awarded on merit. Once identified as a scholar of the Inn, the amount awarded is tailored to ensure that significant assistance is given to those able students most in need. Middle Temple interviews every single applicant for a scholarship and, uniquely, always takes account of means when assessing the value of any scholarship awarded. The Inn believes that it has a track record of funnelling the money where it is most needed and to people, regardless of their background, who will ultimately be a credit to the profession and the administration of justice.

YTD Raised: £8,995.58Camara is an International organisation dedicated to using technology to improve education and livelihood skills in disadvantaged communities around the world. With these skills we expect communities to break the cycle of poverty they find themselves in. Camara's name is taken from a West African dialect and means “one who teaches with experience”. Founded seven years ago in Dublin, Ireland, the organisation has built a proven model of 'education delivery' that is both sustainable and highly scalable. Over this period Camara has provided eLearning Centres to 1,650 schools in Africa, Ireland and the Caribbean - installed nearly 30,000 computers and trained over 5,000 teachers how to use the technology for learning purposes. Some 340,000 children in poor communities have been made digitally literate as a result of this work. Camara currently operates seven Education Hubs (Hubs) in Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda, Lesotho, Tanzania), one in Jamaica and one in Ireland. All Hubs operate locally as social enterprises and are aimed at being financially sustainable after one year. Camara's 3 Year Plan Camara has a high impact, three-year plan to give 1.25 million children the key 21st Century skill of digital literacy and the chance to improve their overall quality of education. To do this we will: Train 10,000 teachers how to use those Centres to improve learning Open 16 Education Hubs and 6 Service Centres to support those Hubs Improving the quality and depth of our school learning programs
