The charity operates the English Alive Academy, which was established in 2004, a school that delivers high quality, full-time education to disadvantaged children aged 3 – 12 who live in and around the city of Nazret in EthiopiaEnglish Alive Academy, Ethiopia, has 190 students, aged between 3 and 12. Fifteen per cent of our students have lost one or both of their parents through disease. Our pupils endure daily hardships rooted in poverty, such as illness, unreliable access to food or clean water, and chaotic family lives.

Our primary means of providing educational aid is to sponsor teachers in remote village communities in the Kalimpong Hill Region and Darjeeling Hill Region of West Bengal, India.

This is why, with the help of English educational publishers, Book-Link sends 250,000 reference books a year to the Ethiopian schools where English is the teaching language from secondary school onwards. We need money to pay for the transport of the books only. There are no other costs.

Ballyholme Primary PTA is registered as a charity in order that we have the benefit of receiving from the Revenue, 28p for every £1 we raise through parents contributions. The School has a very hard working and active group of parents and teachers who organise different social events during the year. Last year we organised a Christmas Fair, Teddy Bears picnic, a table quiz, a relay marathon, sold trolley tags and had various discos for the children. The year ended with a huge BBQ in the playground attended by over 800 parents and children – at the BBQ there were lots of stalls and entertainment to keep both children and parents happy. We hope to do more of the same this year. Your help and support is always welcomed.
