Sea-changers (UK, 1142119) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Sea-Changers is a marine conservation charity responding to a marine crisis. Imagine if there was a turnstile on the sea and every time you went diving, for a surf, sailing or on a cruise you were somehow asked to give a pound, a dollar or a euro as a kind of entry fee and all the money raised was used to make a huge difference to marine conservation projects. Sea-Changers is a new charity that aims to do just that and raise money for marine conservation in the UK by creating a community of Sea-Changer businesses and individuals who will work together to raise money for marine projects. Our approach is simple. We know many people love the sea and love being able to practice their sport and leisure pursuits in, or by the sea. We provide these sea-users with quick and easy ways to give something back to the sea and make a difference to the marine environment by making small donations to marine conservation that when added together can make a BIG difference.

The Seahorse Trust (UK, 1086027) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

The Seahorse Trust was set up to conserve and preserve Seahorses through studying them in the wild, in captivity and through education. We have already made a big difference by getting both types of British Seahorses protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and with your help we can do more. Seahorses are endangered in the wild for a number of reasons such as habitat loss and worse still the Traditional Medicine trade where in excess of 6o million are taken from the sea every year. Here at the trust we aim to make a difference for Seahorses, for the marine environment and for the future, the more that is donated the more we can do. So please dig deep, put on an event to raise funds and lets all make a change for the better in our marine world.

Froglife is a national wildlife charity committed to the conservation of amphibians and reptiles - frogs, toads, newts, snakes and lizards - and saving the habitats they depend on. We want all audiences to appreciate and learn more about amphibians and reptiles, and how to conserve them... Froglifes work is made up of three main strands: - On the ground conservation: this includes building ponds (particularly in urban areas), coordinating the national Toads on Roads project and managing a nature reserve home to Europes largest colony of great crested newts! - Environmental education: we specialise in working with socially excluded and hard to reach youth groups. This means that our education team works closely with a range of education providers, from the traditional (schools) to more non-traditional education providers, such as community groups, special schools and non-wildlife sector organisations like the YMCA. - Providing advice: our Wildlife Information Service receives thousands of calls and emails every year regarding amphibians and reptiles in gardens and Froglife has become a central voice for public advice. We rely on donations from the public to help our important work continue.

Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF) (UK, 1087295) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Achieving the balance – between human development and wildlife and habitat conservation – in a country with the world’s third highest population growth rate is critical. This is the aim of the Uganda Conservation Foundation. Working with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), UCF aims to sensitise communities and demonstrate through practical projects how people can gain financial benefits from conservation. UCF’s current challenge is assisting UWA in the recovery of the 400km² Dura sector north of Lake George, where wildlife has literally been wiped out by poaching. The Dura project is an extension of the successful Waterways project, which is combating ivory poaching, bushmeat smoking, live animal trafficking and illegal fishing across Lakes Edward, George and Albert. Other successful projects include measures to reduce elephant crop raiding. Since the excavation of 30km trenches and erection of 13 elephant fences no retaliatory killings of elephants have been reported. Farmers are now harvesting their crops, allowing children to attend secondary school rather than guard crops, proving that simple low-tech solutions can make a massive difference to rural communities’ quality of life. To read more about how UCF works to improve the lives of communities and protect wildlife visit www.ugandacf.org
