The Heart Of England Forest Project (UK, 1097110) Browse events

YTD Raised: £954.50

Our Mission: "Plantation, re-plantation, conservation, protection, preservation, restoration and re-establishment of trees for the benefit of the public, together with the education of the public by the promulgation of knowledge and appreciation of trees" The Heart of England Forest Project is the trading name of The Heart of England Forest Limited charity. The Heart of England Forest Limited (formerly The Forest of Dennis Limited) was formed in 2005 to plant a large native broadleaf forest for the enjoyment of the public. Why a forest and not a woodland? Well, we hope our woodland will be so large and extend so far, that woodland no longer correctly describes what we are creating. How large is large? We hope to plant 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) of new forest over the coming years. When complete, it will represent the largest forest in England. We are already underway with our planting, and this year expect to plant in excess of 100 hectares of new trees (making us the largest planter of trees in England). We expect this figure to increase year on year. As we are not planting the forest for commercial gain, we plant differently from many other forest projects. We plant only native broadleaf trees and we plant randomly so that our woodlands look natural and not like regularly spaced commercial forestry which is planted with harvesting in mind. We plant far less densely than commercial forestry too, this creates a better environment for the wildlife that will inhabit our forest. Less dense planting, and the provision of open spaces, also creates a forest which is more enjoyable for human visitors. As a charity, our activities and progress are dependent on donations from companies and individuals that see the benefits in what we do. If you would like to help raise funds for the charity or sponsor tree planting, please use the links to the right of this page to start fund raising or to make a donation.  You can also request for a relative, friend or loved ones name to go on the donation certificate, in the event that you wish to give it to someone as a gift. More information on the charity and its work can be found at at : www.HeartOfEnglandForest.com
