Cheetah Conservation Fund UK (UK, 1079874) Browse events

YTD Raised: £571.00

Cheetahs are the most endangered of the big cats in Africa and less than 10,000 remain in the wild. The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) was set up 25 years ago and is now recognized as the world’s leading organisation on the cheetah. The International Research and Education Centre in Namibia is the primary base for all CCF’s global activities, supported by chapters in US, UK, Canada and other countries. CCF has developed a truly inspirational holistic model for cheetah conservation based on the premise that saving the cheetah will save everything else, including humans. The model comprises “Future Farmers of Africa” programme, one part of which is the Livestock Guarding Dog project. This has been so successful that livestock losses have reduced to almost 0% and there is a 2-year waiting list for puppies in Namibia. Dogs have also been sent to South Africa and Tanzania to conserve cheetahs and other big cats. Other parts of the model include education, developing work opportunities for local farmers and communities, restoring habitat, implementing the innovative land-clearing Bushblok fuel project, research and releasing cheetahs back into the wild. This model has proved so successful that cheetah numbers in Namibia have doubled to 3,000. CCF’s vision is to scale-up and roll out this model to other cheetah countries in Africa and beyond. Our call to arms is: “Change the world and save a species” What an extraordinary legacy that would be. Please join us.

YTD Raised: £554.00

Each year the Central and North East London Branch of the RSPCA helps around 1,500 cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals. One of our main activities is running a cat neutering scheme, which helps people who cannot afford vets' fees, to have their animals neutered. This service is available in the Greater London area, with the support of other RSPCA branches and other charities. We also do as much as we can to help animals in distress, and find them permanent or temporary homes. We are a separate charity from RSPCA Headquarters with responsibility for raising funds to pay for the work that we do. We constantly apply our funds to help as many animals as possible in the Branch area.

Animal Welfare Of Luxor (UK, 1124154) Browse events

YTD Raised: £531.00

Animal Welfare of Luxor (AWOL) is a small charity, registered in the UK under charity number 1124154. AWOL provides free veterinary treatment for the animals of Luxor's west bank in Egypt. This is very poor agricultural area where working animals are often essential for the families to be able to earn a living. By helping these animals you are not only alleviating the animals pain; you are also helping their owners to feed and clothe their families. AWOL provides free veterinary care to the very hard working horses, donkeys and camels, as well as the cats and dogs belonging to poor families in the villages. AWOL also makes and provides free comfortable equine tack and dog collars to replace the unsuitable string, wire and chains which poor owners often use as nothing else is available. AWOL is committed to educating owners about better animal care, often the problems we see are caused by ignorance rather than cruelty. AWOL is the only animal charity based on the west bank. The care we provide is essential to this impoverished area. Without AWOL many animals would be left to suffer uncared for and many families would be even worse off than they are now.  Please help AWOL help the animals of Luxor's west bank and their owners.

The Boxer Rescue Service (Southern) (UK, 294544) Browse events

YTD Raised: £514.98

Our charity was formed in the early 1970's to rehome Boxer dogs. We are independent from any breed club or any other rescue organisation and operate mainly in Kent, Surrey, Hampshire and West and East Sussex. Our charity exists to alleviate suffering and distress to dogs, and in particular to the breed known as Boxers. Boxers come to us for a variety of reasons including a breakdown in marriages or partnerships, the death or illness of the owner, or other changes in family circumstances. Some dogs have been abused or neglected, and some are simply no longer wanted. All of our dogs are given a health check by our Vet and where necessary veterinary treatment is provided, all of our dogs are fully vaccinated, neutered and microchiped before being settled into a new and loving home which has been previously checked by us and found to be suitable. Our goal is to quickly find our dogs new and happy homes where they will be wanted and loved. Please support Boxer Rescue Service (Southern) to enable us to rehome Boxer dogs into new and loving homes - all donations will be gratefully received.

Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre (UK, SCO31991) Browse events

YTD Raised: £506.00

Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre was opened in March 2003 on the site of rescue kennels formerly run by another charity. A group of local people, supported by the local media and residents of Dumfries and Galloway, set out to raise sufficient funds to keep a dog rescue and rehoming facility in Dumfries and Galloway. A registered charity was set up (SCO30991) and later the organisation became a company limited by guarantee. Our rescue centre services the whole of Dumfries and Galloway but, when space permits, we will take in dogs from pounds in England and from Northern Ireland to save them from destruction. We have a contract with our local council to look after stray dogs while they wait to be reclaimed by their owners and to rehome them if they are not claimed. We are licensed by the local authority for the care of dogs. We take in around 350 dogs a year and have consistently rehomed about 300 during each year of our operations to date. We are very proud that there are a great many people whose lives have been enriched by the companionship given by one of our dogs. Our web site has enabled us to reach out beyond Dumfries and Galloway and we have rehomed dogs from Dorset to Orkney. As well as rehoming dogs and raising the funds to run our centre, our team carries out visits to talk to local organisations and schools as well as receiving visits from schools, colleges and other groups. On referral from our local social services department, we take in welfare cases, providing temporary care for pets during a time of personal difficulty for their owners. We microchip all our rehomed dogs and provide this service for others. We use the services of a trained dog behaviourist to augment the skills of our staff. We have recently begun a pilot project ongoing support for dog adopters when the behaviour of their pet is challenging. Our staff are trained to assess incoming dogs and to implement training plans to overcome any potential problem behaviours. If a dog finds difficulty in coping with life in kennels, we try to place them with foster carers until a permanent home can be found. Our sponsor a dog (SAD) scheme allows us to provide ongoing support for elderly or chronically sick dogs in a home environment where they can thrive. We believe strongly that our function is to serve both human and canine members of our community in Dumfries and Galloway. This gives us the flexibility to offer a personal service, responding to individual needs and sets us apart from nationally based organisations. However, we aspire to equal these organisations by adopting best practice in running our rescue and rehoming service and were proud to become members of the Association of Dog and Cat Homes.
