For example, we have met all of the government standards that are expected of us for the past three years running and we receive lots of positive feedback from our patients on a daily basis. You can read more about us and our performance on our website. But despite our successes, we still warmly welcome your support. Last year, we received some incredibly kind donations from members of the public, including a grateful father who donated £1,000 to the neonatal department at Epsom, a patient who raised £500 with a fly-fishing event and a local pub that donated toys and a television to one of our children's wards. You could make a huge difference to our patients and their loves ones. Whether your gift is large or small, or whether you raise your money by climbing a mountain or baking cakes, your donation will go straight back into helping local patients and their loved ones.

The League Of Friends Of The Wrightington Hospital (UK, 241542) Browse events

YTD Raised: £2,370.00

Orthopaedic Implants for Malawi supported by: The League of Friends of The Wrightington Hospital Malawi is a landlocked country in Africa with a population of 15 million people. It is a peaceful, democratic country, but is one of the poorest counties in the world. Injuries caused by accidents are one of the biggest causes of disability in adults and children. Hospital care is free, but the implants required to fix broken bones are very scarce, and difficult to obtain with limited resources. There are many types of broken bone, that are much better to fix with surgery. If left untreated because the correct implants are not available patients can be left with permanent deformity, severe disability, pain and arthritis. The bones can either be fixed on the inside with plates and screws or a nail (metal rod inside the bone), or from the outside using pins or wires that pass through the skin and attach to a frame (External fixator). The purpose of this fundraising is to help supply implants & equipment to the main hospital in Malawi that performs most of the fracture fixations in the country. (Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blantyre) Two trained orthopaedic surgeons work together at the hospital, and would really benefit from help with a supply of implants. Many patients, who would have otherwise gone untreated, have been greatly helped and their life improved, by implants supplied by this fund raising. A donation, could really help a patient with a broken bone to remain active, mobile and pain free. How much of the donated money will be used to buy implants? 100% of the money donated will be used to buy and ship implants & equipment straight to the hospital in Malawi. Will patients have to pay for their bone to be fixed? No. All patients will be treated for free
