The district of Balrampur is in the state of Uttarpradesh, in North India. It is Close to the border of Nepal. The district has a population of approxiamately 2 million. The nearest hospital with all facilities is in the state capital, Lucknow, about 150 km away. The roads are depleted and the journey is between 4-7 hours by car. For those who can afford travelling it is really an arduous journey. At the time of ill health, this would be even more terrible. Most people, however, do not have the means to make this journey. The need for this charity hospital is undoubtedly great. The Balrampur Medical Institute & Reasearch centre is young and growing. It is base on 13 acres where the 300 bed hospital is to be built. It is currently providing outpatient facilities, and the state is now providing free medicines to those who visit the hospital. This is a great step forward, but there is still so much to be done and developed. We have a long way to go.
