Do you want to change lives in your local community? VSA changes lives for thousands of the most vulnerable people in Aberdeen city and shire, helping them to live the most independent and fun-filled lives possible. You can too. Join forces with us to help make the north-east strong and inclusive. And remember, what’s raised in the north-east stays in the north-east! There’s so much you can do with VSA, whether you want to donate, volunteer, hold an event or contribute in some other way. You could be changing lives for: Children with additional support needs, like Down’s Syndrome. Maisie’s Children’s Centre is one of a kind. It pioneers full-time integrated care for mainstream children and additional support needs children. “The most important thing about it is that the kids don’t even notice a wheelchair or oxygen tank.” Children with complex learning disabilities. Linn Moor School is a very special place. Here, children with autism and other complex needs reach goals they didn’t know they had. Young families. Richmondhill House is the only service of its kind in Scotland. It creates bonds between babies and their families, guiding them through the maze of parenthood. Adults with mental health problems. We want to create positive effects on health, confidence, independence and responsibility. Re-Connect helps adults who suffer from mental health problems and social exclusion feel at ease. Adults with learning disabilities. Adults with learning disabilities are nurtured at Easter Anguston Farm, Peterculter. Employment here aims to make service users confident in the intimidating mainstream job market. Separated families. The Family Contact Centre is a happy, relaxed place where children with separated parents can meet the mum or dad they no longer live with. Think what that means to the child. Older people. We’ll all grow old one day. Our care homes have varying levels of support. It’s all about respecting dependence while promoting independence. Young and adult carers. One in eight people in Aberdeen have an unpaid caring role. This includes more than 2,000 children. Some are as young as five years old. For both adult and young carers, it’s normal. It’s life. They don’t know any different. You can support these people. And all those we haven’t told you about yet. Our services will be your services too. We’d love to you to visit to see where your funds could go. But most of all, you’ll know your efforts will be going right back into making your local community a better place.
Our work is based on the simple premise that if parents get support and friendship from another parent, they will be better equipped to learn to cope with the many difficulties life can bring, and will be able to give their children the best possible start in their own lives. Through a network of trained parent volunteers we support families who are not coping as well as they would like. Families need support for many different reasons including postnatal illness, disability, bereavement, mental health, parenting or social isolation. Our support is tailored, personalised, non judgemental and delivered to families in their own homes and through social activities. All our volunteers are DBS checked and attend an eight week training course which covers issues such as confidentiality, safeguarding and working with families. We always need new volunteers and all our volunteers have parenting experience. We support our volunteers with ongoing training and regular supervision. Our volunteers give just 2 hours per week of their time and their travel expenses are paid. Shropshire Mind was established almost 40 years ago and provides a diverse range of quality services, across the County for the one in four people and their families acknowledged to be affected by mental or emotional distress. We help to bridge the gap between illness and full independence for service users. Some people need support in many areas of their lives, others in just a few, some for long periods of time, others for only a short while.Respect for users, with justice and equality of access to services are part of our vision that everyone has the right to live equally with others and to enjoy a good quality of life. We try to enable service users to play the fullest possible part in the communities in which they live. We work in partnership with clients to ensure their right to make choices is preserved. We are also striving to reduce the debilitation, alienation, stigma and social isolation experienced by vulnerable people living in rural areas. Our work includes group work based at our Shrewsbury premises and also at venues in Ludlow, Whitchurch, Bridgnorth and Market Drayton, with the aim of establishing additional groups across the county. Shropshire Mind has an established and trained volunteer base and a small number of paid staff who run specific projects. The charity has a board of trustees who meet as the Executive Committee and of those trustees there are elected officers – Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.

"Tis better to light a candle than curse the darkness" We are a forward thinking group of people who strive to support carers of people with dementia and those they care for. The Dementia Support Group started in 1999 as a self-help group of carers of people with dementia. As we were the only group of this nature in Bolton our membership soon grew and we attained registered charity status in 2008. In order to effectively support the carer it was also neccessary that we supported the person with dementia. We therefore sought out many new and innovative therapies and devised some of our own to make the caring experience as positive and enjoyable as possible. The trustees of the charity and members of the management committee are all present and former carers of people with dementia and therefore have first hand knowledge and experience of what caring entails and what support is necessary. Several of our members have also persued professional qualifications in dementia studies to further their knowledge and to keep up to date with new technologies. We intend to be available for all carers of loved ones with dementia.

When you have the well-being and sometimes the life of a loved one in your hands, the responsibility can be too much to cope with alone. Unpaid Carers look after family members and friends who couldn't manage without their support because of illness, frailty, disability or substance misuse problems. Hannah who is a member of the Carers' Support Service team is also a Carer for her grandmother who has Dementia. She has taken on the challenge of running the London Marathon to help raise awareness of Carers in North East Lincolnshire. 3 in 5 of us can expect to become a Carer at some time in our lives. The Carers' Support Centre has been supporting Carers in Northern Lincolnshire for over 27 years. We are here to support Carers throughout their caring journey and beyond. At its simplest, the support we provide gives Carers information and knowledge to help them be independent and take control of their lives. The right information at the right time can be life changing. Stress, depression, loneliness, isolation, are just some experience Carers go through as a result of being a Carer. Over 80% say they experience poor mental and physical health and well-being. We ensure we understand an individual Carers situation so that we can provide specific support to meet their needs. The support we provide is completely free. “The Carers Centre kept me going through my darkest moments. I used to go into the centre in tears and when I left I felt the sun was shining and I felt more hopeful" "The Carers' Support Centre really helped me to accept myself and look at things differently. I am coping better now and feel I have been given the tools to cope. I feel stronger in myself. Your support has been a great help" There are over 7 million Carers in the UK, together saving the UK economy £129 billion every year! Carers selflessly put the needs of other before their own. They are an unsung army of ordinary people who provide more than three quarters of care in the community. We work tirelessly to ensure Carers know that support is available and that they are not alone.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Sheffield Health & Social Care Charity helps to improve the experience of local service users, their families and carers within the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. We fund improvements to mental health and social care services to provide a level of care beyond that which NHS funding alone can deliver and that enables people using these services to maintain their independence in daily life. From supporting individuals with learning disabilities, through to helping people with depression and anxiety, or helping older adults coping with dementia, the Charity continues to make a real difference to people throughout the Sheffield area.
