The Cogwheel Trust (UK, 299228) Browse events

YTD Raised: £820.00

Cogwheel was set up 24 years ago and since 1988 has successfully provided counselling and psychotherapy support for people in Cambridgeshire living on limited financial resources who cannot easily access counselling services. 1 in 4 people will suffer from mental health problems in the course of a year. Mixed anxiety and depression is the most common mental disorder in Britain. This may be as a result of a traumatic situation but sometimes the causes are less easily identified. Cogwheel is able to provide the early intervention which is shown by research be to be the most effective solution and prevents more complex health and social needs from developing, whatever the cause or reason for the disorder.  Cogwheel has a large team of trained counsellors experienced in various psychotherapeutic disciplines and techniques. All counsellors receive regular supervision to ensure best practice. Our counsellors give their time on a voluntary basis or at subsidised rates so we are able to bring help to substantial numbers of people. In 2011 we provided approximately 3600 counselling sessions to vulnerable people in Cambridgeshire, 50% of whom were referred to us by their GPs. Even though participants are on limited incomes we do ask them to make a donation, whatever they feel able to give. This encourages participants to commit to attending sessions and to engage with the support made available. We have counselling rooms in a number of locations throughout Cambridgeshire.

MAP (Mancroft Advice Project) (UK, 1107927) Browse events

MAP’s aim is to help young people to have better, healthier lives, to overcome barriers to realising their potential. Our vision is that all young people will know what it is to be valued; that they will have the support and information they need to make a successful transition to adulthood. Advice Our advice team gives specialist advice on practical things that might affect young people, such as welfare rights, employment, education and training, money and debt, housing and homelessness, sexual health, being a parent and developing strong family relationships.  With the right advice, young people are more likely to find secure housing, successful personal relationships and employment or training opportunities that meet their needs, interests and skills. Counselling MAP’s counsellors and youth mental health workers work with young people to overcome personal problems they might be experiencing.  We offer crisis counselling across Norfolk, where young people can talk privately in quiet, safe places about issues affecting their well-being. With your support, we can offer more counselling sessions to more young people, helping them find immediate relief, to work through what's troubling them and prevent longer-term mental health issues from developing.  Youth Work Our team of Youth Workers deliver activities and events for young people to enable them to develop new skills, increase their confidence, meet new people and have a greater role in shaping what is happening in their community.  Through informal learning and personal development, young people develop a sense of belonging and aspiration.   Your support will enable us to give more young people the opportunity to realise their potential.
